Ukrainian communists will abolish the post of president in the event of their victory

The leader of the Communist Party of Ukraine, Peter Simonenko, said on Saturday, during the CPU Congress that in the event of the victory of the representative of the left bloc in the presidential election, the post of head of state would subsequently be abolished, the UNIAN Ukrainian news agency reports.

The next elections of the President of Ukraine were scheduled for January 17, 2010. The current Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, the leader of the Party of Regions Viktor Yanukovych, the current president Viktor Yushchenko, the speaker of the parliament Vladimir Litvin and others intend to participate in them.

The leaders of the four Ukrainian parties - the Communist Party of Ukraine, "Justice", the "Union of Left Forces" and the Social Democratic Party of Ukraine (United) - signed a declaration on September 14 in Kyiv on the creation of the electoral bloc of left -wing and levocentric forces.

"In case of victory, we will do everything so that the representative from the Communist Party is the last politician holding the presidential post," said the leader of the Communist Party.

Simonenko recalled that the Communist Party has long advocated the creation of a parliamentary republic with strong local self -government, RIA Novosti reports.

He noticed that representatives of the left -wing forces will seek the cancellation of the president’s position, but in the conditions of the current Verkhovna Rada it will be difficult to do.

According to him, it will be necessary to hold a constitutional assembly with the adoption of a project of this People’s Constitution on it. In addition, Simonenko believes that it will be necessary to conduct fundamental changes in 2010 and complete political transformations through early parliamentary elections.
