The young priest from the Catholic parish of St. Michael in Carden City (South Carolina) Andrew Trapp took part in the poker tournament. Sitting at the gaming table in Sutan, he won 100 thousand dollars, reports inopressa.ru with reference to the publication in the French newspaper Le Figaro .
Andrew did not receive the main prize, but he still reached the semifinals. The priest introduced a win to the fund for the construction of a new temple for his arrival.
“The current church is very old,” he explained. “It is very small, no longer meets our needs and is very vulnerable to hurricanes.”
For four years, 4 million dollars were raised to build a new temple, but one and a half million is not enough to lay the first stone.
To take part in the tournament, Father Andrew asked permission from church hierarchs. According to him, the Catholic Church does not condemn the game of cards or other gambling, although "in everything needs moderation."
The winner of the tournament was a retired policeman from New York, but the story is silent about whether the prize a million will serve for the good of the police, the author of the publication at Le Figaro will playfully.
