On January 18, the criminal case against the former editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta in Samara, Sergei Kurt-Adzhiev, was dropped.
Recall that the case was initiated back in May 2007, after an opposition rally in the city, organized by the journalist's daughter Anastasia. Kurt-Adzhiev was accused of using unlicensed software to publish the newspaper. The release of Novaya in Samara had to be suspended. Sergey Kurt-Adzhiev, now the general director of Samarskaya Gazeta, spoke about how it was:
- After 2 years 8 months and 4 days after the start of the criminal prosecution, I was finally recognized as an honest person - yesterday investigator Yevgeny Ardashkin (after my persistent calls to him) nevertheless handed me a decision to dismiss the criminal case with the wording "due to non-participation in the commission of crimes" . True, the case is closed only in relation to me. Computers to Novaya Gazeta are not going to be returned yet. However, if by the end of the week the prosecutor of Samara Badalov does not apologize to me in accordance with the law on behalf of the state, then next week we will go to court.
