Chechen police killed Deputy Doku Umarov

In Chechnya, one of Doku Umarov’s closest henchmen, Chingiskhan Gishaev, was killed yesterday. This militant was known as the organizer of a series of daring attacks on law enforcement agencies. The Chechen authorities, who launched a large-scale special operation in the mountainous part of the republic, said that in the near future the militants and, in particular, their leader Umarov would be dealt with.

The destruction of the militant Gishaev was announced yesterday by the President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov himself, who was personally in the mountains at the site of the special operation. “In the forest area between the settlements of Chishki and Varanda, our fighters blocked a group of militants. During the operation, four bandits were killed, one of whom turned out to be the so-called Emir Genghis Khan Gishayev,” Mr. Kadyrov clarified. According to him, the militant Gishaev was involved in a series of murders of military personnel, border guards and police officers and was one of the people closest to Dok Umarov.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic recalled that on March 20, 2008, militants under the leadership of Emir Gishaev attacked the village of Alkhazurovo, Urus-Martan District, and killed seven people there - five law enforcement officers and two civilians, and when leaving, they burned the local administration building. According to one version, the militants of Genghis Khan Gishaev made this daring attack to demonstrate their strength, specially timed to coincide with the anniversary of the adoption of the Chechen constitution, celebrated on March 23, 2008.

President Kadyrov set the task for the participants of the special operation in the mountains to find and eliminate Doku Umarov. “Today a decision has been made to launch a special operation throughout the mountainous territory - from Nozhai-Yurt to the Achkhoy-Martan region. Units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Chechen Republic, regional departments of internal affairs, and military personnel of the internal troops are taking part in it,” said the head of Chechnya. He noted that the leadership of the operation was entrusted to Russian State Duma deputy Adam Delimkhanov. “Delimkhanov coped well with the assigned tasks during a special operation in the territory adjacent to the Republic of Ingushetia. Dozens of militants were eliminated, including well-known leaders of gangs. I am sure that this experience will be useful in the mountainous regions of Chechnya,” concluded Mr. Kadyrov .

The President of Chechnya recalled that a special special forces group has been created from the most experienced fighters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic, which is tasked with eliminating the militant leader Doku Umarov. “The activities that began today are being carried out as part of the implementation of this plan. We set the participants in the operation, first of all, the task of identifying and neutralizing Umarov’s inner circle, and then himself,” concluded Mr. Kadyrov. After eliminating the remnants of the gangs, Mr. Kadyrov intends to begin the construction of tourist complexes in the Argun Gorge. “By this time, the mountains should become the safest place in Chechnya and in Russia,” summed up the president of the republic.
