Tymoshenko on Yanukovych’s possible victory: “Ukraine’s European path will simply stop”

Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko warns of a threat to independence if Viktor Yanukovych is elected president.

She stated this at a press conference in the Cabinet.

Tymoshenko also stressed that society has "well-established sympathies and a clear position on who and how should lead the country."

"In many elections, an absolute majority votes for candidates from democratic forces. This is how it happened now. A little more than 30% voted for a single monolithic candidate from the oligarchy. While significantly more than 60% voted for candidates from the democratic community," she said.

"This suggests that people see the candidate from democratic forces in different ways, but their opinion on the path is stable. The second round will give us a clear answer whether Ukrainians have a view of the present and future of Ukraine as a democratic state. I think the answer is clear will be on the side of the democratic path," the prime minister said.

In addition, according to Tymoshenko, if Yanukovych comes to power, "Ukraine's European path will simply stop."
