Alena Sidko's skier is disqualified for two years

The Executive Committee of the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR) decided to disqualify for two years the bronze medalist of the Olympic Games-2006 Alena Sidko, convicted of the use of recombinant erythropoetin (EPO).

“You can believe me or not, but when I said that I didn’t know anything about Sidko , I didn’t be cunning,” said Vladimir Loginov, Vice President of the Olympic Committee of Russia. “Yesterday at 11:00, we had a meeting of the OKR Olympic Committee, and after graduating from a positive doping industry, our athlete’s paper came to the FLGR office.” We decided to act promptly.

The International Sports Federation (FIS) on January 26, opposite the name of the Russian skier, Alena Sidko put up the "red card", which means the temporary removal of the athlete from all official competitions.

Information about Sidko appeared in the Russian media on the eve, when a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Olympic Committee of Russia (OKR) and the College of the Ministry of Sporturism of the Russian Federation took place, at which the leaders of domestic sports were supposed to approve the composition of the Olympic team for playing Vancouver. The surname Sidko was absent in this list. The head of the OKR Leonid Tyagachev and the Minister of Sports Vitaly Mutko said that they did not have any information on this issue. At first, representatives of the FLGR refused to comment on the situation.

This season, this is far from the first doping case with our skiers. In the center of the loud scandal were the Olympic champions Evgeny Dementiev and Julia Chepalova. Two other skiers were also disqualified - Nina Rysina and Natalya Matveeva. A little later, Elena Vedeneeva and Dmitry Osinkin joined them. Dementiev, Vedeneev and Osinkin announced the completion of a sports career. The disqualified Chepalova continues to defend innocence in court.

If you add the surname of the ski biathlor Anton Kamenev caught on amphetamine to this list, then eight athletes are gaining a total of eight athletes, the newspaper "News Time" notes. This is twice the “bar” of FIS, which follows the disqualification or removal of the entire national ski Federation. The decision on this subject will be made at the Congress, which will be held in May.
