The third in the elections of the President of Ukraine Sergey Tigipko opposed the assignment of the status of the second state.
"I am against the Russian language become the second state. The reason is understandable: this will cause a very large confrontation in Ukraine, lead to great polarization. It will never understand this in the west of Ukraine. We will have a tremendous internal conflict," Tigipko said in an interview with Vesti FM.
At the same time, in his opinion, the language task can be solved easily - "to transfer the authority to make these decisions to the regions."
“It can be a regional referendum, there may be other forms. But if a decision is made in the region, then the media can be in one or another language. At the same time, the power is bilingual: you don’t know the Ukrainian language, they can ask from the authorities. The school is required to study Ukrainian. Moreover, it may be an intensified program. In order to remove the problem in 10-15 years,” Tigipko said.
