| The chief of the Makhachkala police was killed in Dagestan The militants celebrated the end of last week with a series of acts of sabotage throughout almost the entire North Caucasus. As a result, in just three days in the region, more than ten law enforcement officers and internal troops were killed and the same number were injured. In particular, the head of the Makhachkala Department of Internal Affairs, Akhmed Magomedov, and the head of the inter-district department for combating extremism, Gapiz Isaev, were killed in Dagestan, and four special forces soldiers from Ufa were killed in Chechnya.
As the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Dagestan said, the attempt on the life of the head of the Makhachkala Internal Affairs Directorate was committed on Friday at about 10:30 p.m. in the city center on Akushinsky Avenue. Returning from work, Mr. Magomedov was in his official Volga, which was driven by a driver, and from behind in a Lada Priora he was accompanied by two more security guards - employees of the same police department. It appears that the attack plan was carefully thought out, and the perpetrators were aware of both Mr. Magomedov’s travel itinerary and the fact that he travels with security guards and uses an armored Volga.
According to preliminary data, four criminals were in two VAZ-2109 cars. Having caught up with Mr. Magomedov's motorcade, they first shot at the escort car - both guards were killed on the spot. After this, the militants opened fire from a machine gun and a Kalashnikov machine gun at the Volga of the head of the Internal Affairs Directorate. As experts later found out, the bandits used armor-piercing incendiary cartridges. Mr. Magomedov's driver was killed, and he himself was seriously wounded and died a little later on the way to the hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, the criminals acted very prudently and calmly, even despite the fact that the place where the attempt took place was very busy. So, according to one of the eyewitnesses, after the shooting, the criminals’ car skidded on the ice and they calmly got out of the car, pushed the car to a clear place and only then drove away.
After the news of the emergency, all law enforcement agencies of the city were transferred to a heightened regime, and the police patrol crews received instructions to check all the “nines”, but it was not possible to find the criminals. The criminal case was accepted for proceedings by the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee for the North Caucasus and Southern Federal Districts, and several investigators from the central apparatus flew to Makhachkala by order of the leadership of the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee.
Just a week before the death of the head of the Makhachkala Department of Internal Affairs, on January 29, his interview was published in the Makhachkala Izvestia newspaper, in which Mr. Magomedov spoke about the difficult crime situation in the city. In particular, he noted that last year in Makhachkala there were 75 attacks on the lives of law enforcement officers, and 32 police officers died. He announced approximately the same figures regarding terrorists - in the city in 2009, according to him, 38 members of the gang underground were killed and seven people were detained.
43-year-old Colonel Magomedov was appointed to the post of head of the Makhachkala Department of Internal Affairs at the end of August last year, replacing Rasul Gazimagomedov in this post. Before that, he worked as the head of the Sovetsky District Department of Internal Affairs of Makhachkala. In March 2005, an attempt had already been made on his life. Then, in approximately the same place on Akushinsky Avenue, in the path of his car, unknown persons detonated a powerful bomb. As a result, no one was killed, but Mr. Magomedov himself received shrapnel wounds.
In addition, on Friday morning in the Dagestan city of Izberbash, the head of the interdistrict department for combating extremism, Gapiz Isaev, was killed. His car was blown up by a mine planted on the side of the road. According to the republican Ministry of Internal Affairs, the explosion occurred at about 10.30 am on Lermontov Street in the area of the Kolkhoz Market just at the moment when Lieutenant Colonel Isaev was passing by in his Niva. According to one version, the policeman could have taken revenge on the policeman from the so-called Gubden sabotage and terrorist group, headed by Magomedali Vagabov, a native of the village of Gubden. As reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mr. Isaev took an active part in the development and implementation of many special operations to neutralize militants, including those from this group.
A day earlier, a major clash occurred in the Urus-Martan region of Chechnya. According to the republican department of the Investigative Committee, near the village of Alkhazurovo, a reconnaissance group discovered a detachment of militants numbering about 50 people. Special forces units were brought to the site and began combing the area. In the ensuing battle, five soldiers were killed and seven more people were injured. Four of the dead security officials, as reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Bashkortostan, were from the Ufa special forces detachment - an officer, a warrant officer, a sergeant and a corporal.
The militants, according to the Republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs, also suffered significant losses - on Thursday morning, during an inspection of the emergency site, the bodies of five militants were found, one of whom turned out to be one of the leaders of the bandit group. To date, the identities of three criminals have been identified. They turned out to be 22-year-old Shamil Akhmadov and Ibragim Gaziev, as well as the so-called emir of the village of Tevzin, Vvedensky district, Ilman Istamirov. Meanwhile, most of the militants, apparently, managed to escape from the encirclement.
Over the past weekend, two emergency situations occurred in Ingushetia. On Saturday afternoon, in the village of Ordzhonikidzevskaya, a homemade bomb was blown up along the route of the car of the chief of staff of the Sunzhensky District Department of Internal Affairs of the Republic, Magomed Agiev. As a result of the explosion, Mr. Agiev was seriously injured and taken to hospital. Yesterday, around noon, near the spare parts market in the same Ordzhonikidze, militants shot at point-blank range a sergeant of the Sunzhensky District Department of Internal Affairs and a resident of the village of Arshty who was next to him. They both died on the spot. It was not possible to trace the criminals. Sergey MINENKO | |
