EU countries called on to increase production of electric vehicles

EU industry ministers have called on the European Commission to develop a pan-European strategy for developing the production of electric vehicles in Europe in the face of growing competition in this sector from the United States and China, European media reported on Wednesday.

As reported by RIA Novosti , the Minister of Industry of Spain, which chairs the EU, Miguel Sebastian, who held an informal meeting with colleagues from other EU countries in San Sebastian, Spain, said that he expects the European Commission to prepare a corresponding plan by May of this year.

According to official Madrid, the task of increasing the production of electric vehicles should be included in the EU economic development strategy until 2020.

The heads of large European electric power companies have previously expressed support for the creation of universal sockets ("plugs"), with the help of which consumers will be able to recharge electric vehicles in any country of the European Union.
