A criminal group of 30 people involved in insurance fraud was exposed in Chelyabinsk. From 2007 to 2009, criminals received payments for non-existent road accidents: local traffic police officers prepared fictitious documents about accidents in exchange for bribes. As Gazeta.Ru was told by the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee of the Prosecutor's Office of the Chelyabinsk Region, five inspectors were charged with fraud, official forgery and taking bribes. Two of them served in a separate traffic police battalion and three in the traffic police regiment of the Chelyabinsk traffic police.

Sufficient evidence has been collected regarding eight more traffic cops. As the investigative authorities established, inspectors used bribes to draw up documents about non-existent road accidents, which were subsequently presented to insurance companies for payment.

The accused police officers held the positions of ordinary traffic police inspectors, as well as duty inspectors, and were involved in registering accidents due to the nature of their activities. Bribes for registering a false accident did not exceed 5 thousand rubles.

In addition, five civilians have been charged. The main organizer of the gang also did not wear police shoulder straps. According to the investigation, the criminal group was led by a resident of Chelyabinsk, a native of one of the Caucasian republics, who moved to Russia more than 10 years ago and received citizenship. As representatives of the UPC note, this citizen, whose name has not been disclosed, had extensive connections in the local traffic police. He is now under arrest. At the same time, most of the police officers accused of bribery have been released on bail, some of them continue to serve.

The fraudsters were identified thanks to the actions of the regional FSB Directorate : the investigation began in June 2009 and continues to this day.

It has been established that fraudsters have been registering fake road accidents since 2007. During this time, they received at least 15 payments from insurance companies under compulsory motor liability insurance and comprehensive insurance, the amount in each case varied from 200 thousand rubles to 1 million rubles.

At the same time, the UPC representative noted, the criminals “had the opportunity not to present the car for inspection to the insurance company - they had enough documents.” In total, up to 30 people may be involved in the Chelyabinsk fraud case, and the number of proven episodes may also increase.
