About 80–90% of one-two-kilogram fish are already adult individuals, they can be eaten calmly. And if you caught a 10-kilogram pike-most often there are females, then you should understand: a fish that has grown to this size is a unique genotype. When such a female spawns, she gives several tens of millions of eggs, and each carries this fantastic genotype. That is, potentially, each of the little ones can grow up to 12 kilograms. The big one must be released! And let go very carefully, competently. Conduct a certain resuscitation after fishing so that there is more chances to survive. And such a rethinking occurred in the West, and in the east a long time ago, a few decades ago, which led to the healing and increasing the population of fish. We have few fish. The paradox is a lot in Finland, there are many in Poland, and there are very few throughout the territory of the former USSR. Mostly due to poaching. Of these, 2.5–4 thousand receives a huntsman. $ 4 thousand for a man in the Tver province or in Vologda! Imagine how he will guard the bear. Therefore, now the bears are divorced there - horror, they are already scary to go to the forest, especially if the cars do not drive nearby. And unfortunately, we somehow did not succeed with fish. They are caught with nets, electricity is used. In order to recover to a small pond, after he was so cleaned, it takes several years, or even decades. 
Everything has its own buzz. There is a joy in preparing for fishing, completing the ammunition, knitting flies, fitting belts, vests, hats, special glasses. It is interesting to negotiate with friends, choose where to go. Then the trip itself, a day or two. New river. Ear, drink for a meeting ... Climans will tell the same thing, only they have a goal - to climb the mountain. There are people who are engaged in rafting. Fishermen do not understand them: this is necessary, they got to the top of the Yenisei - and they did not catch the fish. And they can go down on the Yenisei boat! There are many people who live in harmony with nature. 
Such an atavism, probably. Everyone chooses his own. But communication with nature is probably the main thing. I like my communication method. Unlike hunters, I can let go of fish. Squeeze the beard of the hook, take it out carefully, hold it against the current, it will rest - and it will float away. And if I shoot a hare in the head, I will never let him go. This is irrevocable. Yes, I am hunting, I struggle with this living creature, I seem to get it ... And at the same time there is a chance not to harm it. In this, it seems to me, there is something very correct.
