Brick leaders (Brazil, Russia, India, China) at the upcoming meeting 15-16 in Brazil will discuss issues of creating a unified international currency, eliminating the imbalance in the world economy, and will also develop a general position for the upcoming Summit of the Group twenty, the Finmarket agency reports.
According to the assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Arkady Dvorkovich, one of the priorities of the Brik summit will be the definition of common positions in various international formats, including in the form of "twenty".
As a rule, the leaders of the BRIC countries make a single position on the main issues of the G20 summit, the Kremlin representative emphasized.
He said that among the issues of the economy that is planned to be discussed at the BRIK summit, "developing general standards for the banking system, determining the sufficiency of capital in commercial banks." “On this topic, the BRIK countries, I think there will be a common position and we will be able to push the decision in the“ 20, ”he said.
Speaking about the reform of international financial organizations, redistribution of quotas in the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, Dvorkovich noted that the position of "BRIK countries here is one." In the case of an unfavorable solution at the G20 summit on this issue, the country of BRIK has the opportunity to block it
In format, Brik intends to discuss the issue of creating a unified international currency. “This is one of the questions that we will continue to discuss both in the format of the BRIC and the Russian president will talk about this at the summit,” said the assistant to the head of state. “We continue to believe that this tool has good potential.”
At the same time, said Dvorkovich, Participants of BRIC, in particular China, more support the Russian Federation in this matter than partners in the "eight".
In this regard, the presidential assistant noted, perhaps Russia and China will form a joint position. “We hope that the BRIK format is more actively than in the G20 format, the issues of the world currency system, the role of various currencies, the role of reserve currencies, standards of behavior of countries that are key to the functioning of the world currency system, the issue of trading in the national currency will be discussed. All these issues will definitely be on the agenda of BRIK leaders,” he emphasized.
The summit in Brazil is the topic of imbalance in the world economy. "Some understand this as an unbalanced currency and call, for example, China, abandon the hard control of the yuan course, others believe that the imbalance goes from the level of development between advanced, developed countries and poor countries," Dvorkovich said.
Russia, according to him, considers the policy of strengthening the national currency the internal case of China and does not consider it possible to provide pressure on its own foreign exchange policy.
Dvorkovich doubted that this year the countries would come to an agreement on the issue of eliminating the imbalance in the global economy. However, he did not exclude that approaches to the resolution of existing disagreements and an agreement on closer coordination in macroeconomic policy can be developed.
According to the presidential assistant, at the meeting, "it will be impossible to get away from issues related to the world trading system." “We are not members of the WTO, and the rest of our partners are,” he remarked.
At the upcoming summit, Russia intends to offer the BRIC participants annually hold meetings alternately in every country. “The fact that the second summit will take place, suggests that this format was alive, it did not disappear from the political map of the world and has prospects,” Dvorkovich said.
During the summit, it is expected to be determined by representatives of the presidents to participate in the Eight and Twenty. “In addition, the leaders will agree that regular meetings of foreign ministers will be held, meetings will continue at the level of finance ministers and heads of central banks. Regular meetings of persons responsible for security issues will also be planned,” the presidential assistant said.
