The United States abolished sanctions against the state corporation Rosoboronexport, introduced in October 2008. A message about the abolition of sanctions against Rosoboronexport is posted on the website of the US Federal Register. According to the Associated Press, sanctions were also lifted from the Moscow Aviation Institute and the Russian Chemical and Technology Institute named after Mendeleev.
Commenting on the decision, the representative of the US State Department Philip Crowley rejected the assumption that the abolition of sanctions has become part of the transaction between Russia and the USA, and now Moscow will support the UN Security Council proposed by Washington regarding Iran. True, Crowley did not deny that recently the positions of Russia and the United States about the Iranian nuclear problem have become noticeably closer.
As stated in the White House message, sanctions against Mendeleev University and MAI were terminated due to the fact that their activities "now meets the interests of US foreign policy and security." Sanctions with Rosoboronexport were lifted without explanation.
The United States imposed unilateral sanctions against the Russian weapons exporter, as it considered that the company that collaborated with Iran violates the so -called "Act of non -proliferation against Iran, North Korea and Syria." Rosoboronexport was accused of spreading technologies that can be used to create weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear, and its delivery means.
US sanctions included a ban on state organizations for any assistance to the company or its subsidiaries, as well as a ban on the purchase of American military equipment by "Rosoboronexport".
Rosoboronexport then regarded the actions of the American side as a manifestation of unfair competition. The same assessment of the introduction of sanctions was given by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
In March, the United States lifted similar sanctions with another Russian company - Glavkosmos. They were introduced on July 30, 1998 on charges of cooperation with Iran in rocket science. Tehran shortly before that conducted a test of a ballistic missile. Together with the Glavkosmos, who acted as an intermediary in the signing of missile contracts, the sanctions were introduced against the Baltic State Technical University, the Grandian Research Institute, the NPC Inor, the Polyus NPA, and the Europalas-2000 and Moso companies. As a result, the cooperation of these organizations with American state institutions and private companies turned out to be impossible.
In 2000, it was possible to prove that the NPC Inor and the NPA Polyus had no relations with Tehran, and the sanctions were lifted with their respects. And in early February 2010, the Baltic State Technical University was excluded from the Black List, engaged in the training of specialists for the defense industry of Russia.
