In an abandoned shaft of the Jewish AO, 26 kg of explosives were found

Investigators of the ATS in the Obluchensky district of the Jewish AO opened a criminal case on the discovery of more than 26 kg of ammonite in one of the abandoned mines near the Las City in the EAO.

As Interfax reports with reference to the press service of the Office of the FSB of Russia in the Jewish Autonomous Region, the criminal case was opened under Art. 222 of the Criminal Code ("illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage of weapons, ammunition, explosives and explosive devices").

"Thanks to the operational data that nine briquettes with yellow powder, similar to explosives, are located near an abandoned mine, the use of explosives for criminal purposes was stopped," the FSB said in a statement.

The examination confirmed that the briquettes found are nothing more than ammonite. The total weight of the find was 26 kg of 550 grams.

"Ammonite is an explosive of industrial production - a mixture of ammonium nitrate and TNT. It is used to explode rocks. Unlike other explosives, it can also detonate when it is in water. The capacity of the seized ammonite is equivalent to a similar weight of the explosive of TNT," the message says.
