Russia and Iran will create a joint company for the operation of the Busher NPP, said the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko, speaking at the Atomespo forum in Moscow.
“Since Iran only enters the path of using peaceful atomic energy and does not yet have sufficient experience in the operation of such objects, we agreed that our specialists will work as part of this joint company, and for the next few years the station will be carried out jointly by the personnel of our two countries,” Interfax quotes the head of Rosatom.
In any case, international sanctions against Iran will not affect the nuclear power plant in the Bushera, Kiriyenko said. According to him, both points in the technological chain that may have dual use - the enrichment of uranium and processing the spent fuel - will be carried out in Russia.
The Busher NPP is located in one of the hottest areas of Iran, on the shores of the Persian Gulf. The station, back in the 70s of the last century, began to build a German concern Kraftwerk Union AG (Siemens), but after the Iranian revolution the general contractor refused the project. In the 90s, the Russian Atomstroyxport was involved in the construction of the nuclear power plant.
The dates for starting the station have repeatedly shifted. At first, the physical launch of the nuclear power plant was scheduled for September, and the energy launch for November 2007, but at the end of 2006 serious problems arose with the financing of the project from the Iranian side. More than a year spent on their settlement.
In addition, part of the suppliers of equipment from third countries refused to participate in the project, it took an additional time to search for alternatives.
Now the physical launch of the station is expectedin August , Sergey Kiriyenko once again confirmed these terms: "By the end of the summer of this year, we expect on the schedule for the completion of the commissioning and starting the launch of this nuclear station."
