| Works of young choreographers were shown at the House of Music The Terra musica evening, organized by the International Creative Workshop of Yuri Abdokov, brought together musicians and dance composers. The first section was given to the recently (in 2008) created chamber choir "Russian Conservatory", the second and third - to graduates of the Moscow Choreographic School, for whom young choreographers Konstantin Semenov and Kirill Radev choreographed their numbers. Both the choir, led by twenty-five-year-old conductor Nikolai Khondzinsky, and Semenov and Radev are not yet high-profile Moscow newsmakers; their main roads lie ahead. Nevertheless, the Theater Hall of the Moscow International House of Music was filled to capacity: new names of choreographers appear on the posters so rarely that the entire old guard around the ballet and the entire critical workshop gathers for each such presentation. The motive is clear: what if a miracle happens, what if we receive the promise of a new leader in a space poor in writing talent. Young artists also live in the same hope and therefore are happy to experiment even during the extremely busy time of final exams and auditions for troupes.
Well, the main thing that can be said based on the results of the premiere evening is that the writers belong to their time. This, by the way, is a lot for ballet - every four years at the competition at the Bolshoi Theater we see how young authors give monologues and duets written in the language of the fifties and seventies, the dust of dreary antiquity falls off the new costumes. The miniatures of Semenov and Radev are modern; for the most part it is a quiet choreographic European standard. Well, yes, I would like something different, I would like discoveries, my own language, and not the translation of learned (albeit beautiful, albeit correctly pronounced) phrases of others. But the reproduction of the European standard should also be welcomed - like furniture from IKEA, which cannot be compared with that created in the era of Louis XV, but still has a lot of advantages.
Konstantin Semenov, who is 26, after graduating from a Moscow school, serves in the corps de ballet of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theater. The musical theater has recently been busy collecting a collection of works by the most significant contemporary choreographers - Neumeier and Duato are already in the repertoire, and Kilian's premiere is expected in July. 29-year-old Kirill Radev, who after graduating from the Vaganova School spent several years of his life in the rollicking troupe of the Imperial Russian Ballet, is now dancing in Spain, in the troupe of Angel Korea. That is, both have the ability to look and perceive. So they look and perceive. And they bet what they can.
Konstantin Semenov, for example, “Sarabande” to the music of Diego Ortiz, where yesterday’s schoolchildren Ekaterina Besedina and Artemy Belyakov play baroque gallantry to the music of the 16th century, only slightly indicating it with their hands and slight hints of courtly bows. And also “A Man Disappears Like a Shadow” to the music of a 17th-century inhabitant Stefano Landi, where even the clenched fists and threatening poses of young people (graduates Georgy Gusev, Vladislav Borisov, already working at the Bolshoi Dmitry Dorokhov and the Musical artist Ekaterina Ivanova are busy) do not turn the miniature into imitation of “Spartak”, which many Moscow youths are so guilty of. There is quiet script, graceful weaving, play with graphics - it’s a pleasure to watch. And exactly the same thing - grace, quiet construction, lack of pathos - can be said about Kirill Radev's twenty-minute one-act "Sinfonietta" to the music of Boris Tchaikovsky. And nothing more, nothing that sets it apart from the European standard. Only the colleagues of the choreographer from the Angel Corey Ballet danced much more carelessly than the schoolchildren...
Is a negative result also a result? Well, yes, perhaps. There were no new writing stars on the horizon this time. Two young men were discovered making modest compositions that were pleasing to the eye. Nowadays there are already quite a lot. Anna GORDEEVA | |
