Libya agreed to pay almost $ 3 billion to the families of victims of IRA attacks in Britain

The Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi ordered the payment of Great Britain almost $ 3 billion as compensation, first of all, to the families of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) who died and suffered from the attacks of the Irish Republican Army (IRA), the British newspaper Daily Mail said on Monday.

According to the publication, a bilateral agreement on compensation was reached after nine-month negotiations in Tripoli with the participation of representatives of families of the dead and victims and official representatives of the United Kingdom, ITAR-TASS reports.

Earlier it was reported that relatives of more than 100 victims of terrorist attacks Ira insist on compensation, since Libya once supplied explosives to the detachments of the North Irish terrorists. Moreover, things in their claims were instituted not only in the UK, but also in the USA.

Libya, for her part, stated that she did not intend to pay compensation to the families of victims of terrorist attacks arranged by IRA. Earlier, three Americans, who became victims of IRA attacks, achieved compensation from Libya as a result of extrajudicial settlement.

Libya supplied terrorists with IRA with explosive substances and firearms, starting in the 1980s of the last century. Using plastic explosives provided by the Libyans, Ira militants held a series of large terrorist attacks.

Among them - an explosion in 1983 in one of the most famous department stores of the world - London Harrods: 6 people who purchased Christmas gifts were killed. 11 lives took an explosion in Ennisillene in the fall of 1987 on the day of commemoration during service in memory of the wars falling on the fields. The same explosives were used in the explosion in the North Irish city of OMA in August 1998: 29 people died and 220 were injured.

Earlier, Libya paid more than $ 7 million each of the families of the victims of the explosion of the plane over the Scottish Lokerbi on December 21 in 1988, which claimed 270 people. Libya officially did not plead guilty to organizing this attack, but agreed to pay compensation to the families of victims of this tragedy, provided that the UN international sanctions, bilateral trade sanctions from the United States, as well as the removal of Libya from the American list of states supporting terrorism.
