Kudrin plunged to the bottom of Lake Baikal

Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin on Sunday plunged to the bottom of Lake Baikal on a deep-sea research apparatus "MIR-1", the press service of the government of the Irkutsk region reports.

The immersion occurred near Olkhon Island and lasted about three hours. Under the leadership of the crew commander, the head of the scientific exploitation of the deep -sea apparatuses of the Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Hero of Russia Anatoly Sagalevich Kudrin and the governor of the Irkutsk region, Dmitry Mezentsev, studied the animal world of the lake and conducted the selection of soil samples. From a depth of about 500 meters, the immersion participants got in touch on the hydrophone.

The research expedition "Worlds in Lake Baikal" has been held since 2008. On August 1 last year, the immersion of Baikal was made by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
