All the forces of the St. Petersburg police are thrown into the search for those suspected of murdering an employee of the Office of Private Security at the Central Internal Affairs Directorate of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region. Another policeman is seriously wounded.
The attack on the squad took place around 12 noon on August 4. Residents of house No. 27 on Udarnikov Avenue (outskirts of the city) heard shooting in the yard and called the 02 service. Arriving operatives found a parked patrol car in front of the entrance, in which there was a senior sergeant, 27-year-old Vladimir Krutov, with a bullet through his head, and in the front garden near the house they found the body of a senior sergeant, 26-year-old Dmitry Voronin, who also died from a head wound.
According to Andrey Lavrenko, head of the St. Petersburg Investigative Department, Novaya Gazeta, according to the main version, Voronin and Krutov noticed a suspicious car on Udarnikov Avenue and tried to check the documents of two men and a girl sitting in the foreign car. In response, fire was opened on the law enforcement officers.
According to the investigators, the killers could be both taken by surprise criminals and "people's avengers." The motives and some circumstances of the crime are still not clear to the investigators: the attackers took away their service weapons from both policemen and handcuffed their hands. According to preliminary information, there were three malefactors. They fled the scene of the crime in a silver Chevrolet Lanos, which the detectives found a day later in the same district of St. Petersburg.
Vladimir Krutov is in critical condition in intensive care. The funeral of Dmitry Voronin took place on August 7 (on this day his wedding was scheduled).
