An explosion occurred at the thermal power plant in Norilsk

An explosion occurred on the territory of CHPP-2 in Norilsk, as a result of which one person died, RIA Novosti reports citing the press service of the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

At the thermal power plant, according to representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, on August 13 at about 07:00 local time, one of the five receivers with a capacity of 5 thousand cubic meters exploded. As a result of the explosion, the receiver building was damaged and the administrative building was partially destroyed. The body of a deceased man, presumably the mechanic on duty, was found 10 meters from the receiver.

Personnel were evacuated from the territory of the thermal power plant. The rubble is being cleared. The operation of CHPP-2 is temporarily stopped. The causes of the incident are being investigated.

CHPP-2, located in Talnakh, belongs to OJSC Norilsk-Taimyr Energy Company.
