Archbishop of Riga invented a new sin

Believers of Latvia must take part in local elections so as not to commit sin, the new archbishop of Riga Zbignnev Stankevich said.

“Most of the inhabitants of Latvia are baptized, that is, they are Christians, they are members of the Church and as members of the Church, they are responsible for what is happening in the country,” the Latvian information resource Delfi quotes the clergyman.

“This is their civic duty, and the church teaches this - your duty to go and vote. If you do not vote, you actually sin, because you avoid taking responsibility for your country,” Stankevich said.

At the same time, as the site notes, in an interview with the De Facto program, the Archbishop of Riga assured that he was trying to limit himself from politics.

Stankevich also stated that even if some party defends Christian values, he is not going to agitate for it. At the same time, he explained that his duty as a citizen and archbishop to evaluate all parties, as well as their moral aspects.
