The current Russian football champion Rubin Kazan has signed a four-year contract with Brazilian midfielder Carlos Eduardo. According to some reports, the transfer amount paid to the German Hoffenheim amounted to 20 million euros. Carlos Eduardo will become the tenth Brazilian to join Rubin in the team's history.
The Kazan newcomer turned 23 in July. His first professional club was Gremio. In August 2007, the South American moved to Hoffenheim, playing as an attacking midfielder, making 80 appearances for the club and scoring 19 goals. At the end of last year he made his debut in the national team and has played four matches for it so far.
Russia has second place in the CEC ranking
The European Volleyball Confederation (ECV) has published a new ranking of national federations, which determines the representation of countries in continental cup tournaments in 2011/12. This classification takes into account the results of clubs shown in the last three seasons. Russia retained second place in both the men's and women's lists, losing in both cases to Italy. Thus, our country has two guaranteed places in the Champions League, two in the CEV Cup and one in the Challenge Cup.
Here's how the Champions League spots are broken down by country. For men (total 24 participants): 3. Italy, 2. Russia, Greece, Poland, France, Belgium, Turkey, 1. Spain, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Serbia, Czech Republic and Holland. In the women's tournament (20): 3. Italy, 2. Russia, Turkey, France, Poland, Spain, 1. Serbia, Romania, Croatia, Holland and Germany. The CEB reserves a couple of special invitations in these competitions, so the Russian representation may still increase. Zvonareva returned to the top ten
Russian tennis player Vera Zvonareva, thanks to reaching the finals of the prestigious tournament in Montreal, managed to improve her tournament position in the WTA rankings and moved from 11th position to eighth. At the moment, the Muscovite is the only representative of Russia who is in the top 10 of the BTA ranking. The list is topped by American Serena Williams (7895 points), followed by Danish Caroline Wozniacki (6410).
Maria Sharapova and Elena Dementieva lost several positions, with Dementieva leaving the top ten.
