The Indian India Pariwar Indian concern can purchase Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. (MGM) for $ 2.4 billion, Interfax reports with reference to The Wall Street Journal. According to the sources of the newspaper, Sahara and MGM are preliminary negotiations.
In early September, MGM received the next, already seventh, delay in debt payment - until October 29. In October, MGM is expected to file a bankruptcy statement, and if negotiations with Sahara are falling through, Gary Barberus and Roger Bernbaum, who lead the Production Company Spyglass Entertainment, will go on.
Barber and Bernbaum have already signed a protocol about intent with MGM. The debt MGM is $ 4 billion, Sahara agrees to pay it to creditors 60 cents for each invested dollar (total 2.4 billion). However, analysts are sure that this will not be enough to interest investors.
Last year, MGM was put up for sale, but even the fame of the brand did not attract investors in a recession. Time Warner offered $ 1.5 billion for the company, which lenders considered an insufficient amount. Interested investors included a native of the USSR businessman Leonard Blavatnik.
MGM made many films that became the classics of cinema, including the "wizard of the country of Oz" and "Safeed by the Wind". The film studios owns the rights to cartoons about Tom and Jerry, Bondian, as well as the film "Hobbit" not yet shot - a prequel to the trilogy "The Lord of the Rings".
