37 years in one institute with m . IN . Fishman

In my archive for several years, two opuses were telepressed, which were pronounced to the publication. But one of them (phosphorus thoughts) did not take Yushkin to the messenger (although he himself, as it were, provoked him to compose it), and the other (about Fishman) was asked for me to the anniversary Fishmann collection several years ago, but they dragged on and began to wait for the next anniversary. But around me, my generation is drowning like flies, so sorry, I may not live to the next anniversary of Fishman (in 2009), and therefore I offer my memorial artist. If you take it, let me know. I will then get a portrait of Fishman.
Sincerely, Yudovich
Fishman seemed to never die. In 1994, he turned 75, he performed and told us from the rostrum, with the gall humor that had never left him: “I want to report that 75 is still a lot!” In 1999, he was already 80-and he (in the inhabitant between his stay in the cardiocenter, where he regularly got into the service of a few years), as it had never had been to the service-he did not go to the service. He writes the next book and complains to me on Yushkin, who ordered and even promised to show an essay about the history of gold searches in Komi; And he has long written this composition, and Yushkin de has been pulling and pulling something with the publication ... And now he is 82-and he is all the same, not a single gray hair, only his voice became quieter, and his eyes-some extinct, which became especially noticeable when he lost Nina Nikolaevna.
It was evident that from under his feet they knocked out support, but he continued to stubbornly fight for his life and did not want to give up for anything.
I lived with him at the same institute for 37 years, and was probably one of the last who saw him before his death in the hospital when he cried (a terrible sight - the crying Fishman) and complained about me about the nurse, who, as he assured, destroyed him with illiterate procedures - when he could still live ...
They will recall the Fishman for a long time and write more than once-for he was a truly large person.
1. Wise administrator
In the spring of 1967, in Gatchina near Leningrad, shortly before the defense of the candidate dissertation in the All -Minh, I received a letter from the director of the Institute of Geology of the Komi branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR - Mark Veniaminovich Fishman. The letter contained an invitation to work at the Institute - for the geochemistry of organic matter in connection with the forecast of oil and gas on the western slope of the Urals.
This invitation was organized by Misha Sokolov - my distant relative (my older brother was married to his older sister). As you know, under the leadership of M.V. Fishman, Misha created a complex analytical complex at the institute - an isotopic geochronology laboratory.
On May 10, I arrived in Syktyvkar and appeared to M.V. Fishman, who immediately led me to introduce myself to V.P. Podolov (the then chairman of the Presidium of the Komi Fan of the USSR). There was then such an order; The institutions were still small and non -self -state, and the invitation of a specialist from the Center was a certain event for the branch.
A map hung in Podolov’s office; Fishman poked somewhere on the middle Pechora and proudly said that-here, you see, we recently opened here a large Vuktyl gas condensate field! This is so that I am imbued with proper reverence for the region that I had to study.
Then we returned to the institute, and the director immediately invited me: to get acquainted with future objects of research (it was assumed that I would do all the Paleozoa of the Pechora Urals) - to go to the Poshshugor field with Viktor Puchkov. And first, do not set ambitious goals, but simply get an idea of the geology of the Paleozoic, take a closer look at the cuts. However ... I was recommended to take straps in the field for crushing samples (which was for me, who had previously worked at work in Yakutia - in a curiosity).
The director explained that you will come from the field with ready -made samples - you will be able to quickly push them to tests - you will get the results faster.
Only much later did I appreciate all the wisdom of these, seemingly completely simple advice.
Firstly,-to go to the field with Puchkov, and not with someone else (the choice of detachments was big). This now everyone knows V.N. Puchkov-a member of the Kora of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the director of the Ufa Institute of Geology, a world-famous scientist. And then, few people guessed about the true scale of the talent of the young Puchkov (even not a candidate of sciences!). But Fishman did not need to guess - he, one of the few, knew Vita Puchkova significantly.
Secondly, go to Shchugor. The Shchugorsk intersection of the Paleozoic of the Western slope of the Urals is one of the most complete, from the Ordovician to Perm (and there is a little below the mouth of Schugor on Pechora). It would seem that Petroologist-Magmatist Fishman, professionally occupied by his granites, could not know such things. But in fact, Fishman, as a worthy student of A.A. Chernov, knew absolutely everything in the geology of the Urals and almost everywhere - he himself visited.
Thirdly, to make laboratory assistants in the camp not be idle, but to crush the samples-so that, so to speak, "the service does not seem like honey." It suddenly turned out that this process also influenced me - instead of lazy “contemplative” reconnaissance routes, I had to do the massive testing of Paleozoic strata without any “swing”, without any “swing”. And the Shchugorsk collection-1967 was the first stone in the building of the regional geochemistry of the Paleozoic sedimentary thickness of the Pechora Urals, which I built after that another 10 years!
And so, remembering all this, I see that Fishman was wise, i.e. had the ability to foresee the future. There are enough smart people at the Scientific Institute - but how many wise? - Very little.
2 .
Having met with Fishman and from time to time discussing my official affairs with him, I surprised him with absolute optimism: no matter what production problem arose, he never discouraged, did not panic and fell in spirit - but calmly and methodically searched for a solution, emitting the indestructible confidence that the decision was certainly found - it was necessary not only to look for it, but it was not only concerned with intra -instituting problems, but it concern And the general political situation in the country (which the Academy of Sciences has always acutely felt - for any zigzags of the “General Line of the Party” were primarily affected by the financing of academic science!).
For example, when the era of the Khrushchev thaw was replaced by the era of twisting of the nuts, the young scientific intelligentsia gave rise to pessimism, indifference to life and the general decline of the spirit - bright signs of the then “stagnation”. Fishman has never been observed with Fishman!
Having met an obstacle emanating from the very top and therefore seemed insurmountable, he calmly analyzed: what can you try to do here-how to do it really-and how in this difficult situation not only to survive, but also to live well ...
Reflecting on this quality, I realized: it was the attitude of the front -line soldier.
Fishman went through the war, remaining alive and was not even wounded. Therefore, he perceived a peaceful life in a special way-as an unexpected gift of fate. Apparently, the biological fact of life as such was so important and self-sufficient for him-that all the working problems that brought the youth into the disclosure seemed to him by the existing trifles. For example, what trouble, if he needs to send 20 detachments in the field in a month, and only 15 “lowered” money is enough? You just need to think carefully, without panic, what can be done here-and there will be the missing money somewhere. And they, as a rule, were - the problems that arose were solved.
3. A man of strong will
There was another unusual quality, which I also quickly found the director: the problems that arise brought him to a good mood! After all, ordinary people - how does it happen? All kinds of difficulties, troubles, troubles, suddenly arising obstacles - all this gives rise to negative emotions, makes a person fussy, preoccupied, gloomy or even oppressed. With Fishman, everything was exactly the opposite. The appearance of an unexpected obstacle seemed to be pleased with him, he revived, became energetic and gambling.
Again, having observed this several times and was surprised-I realized what was the matter: he was a strong-willed person, and perceived all kinds of obstacles, apparently, as a useful and pleasant training of his will. Therefore, his difficulties did not inhibit him, but rather inspired, incorporated, added courage!
By the way, V.A. Dedeev, invited by Fishman to the institute in 1975, was also different in the same quality, maybe they experienced (as it seemed to me on this basis, but maybe I'm mistaken?) Mutual sympathy.
4. The conflict remaining between us
All these 37 years of my stay at the institute, I had a very good relationship with Mark Veniaminovich - and during his directorship (until 1985) and after that. In the last 10 years, meeting him at the institute, I have always been happy just to that fact - that here, Fishman was going on, as if nothing had happened, as there was 10, 20, and 30 years ago - and this means children, that everything is in order in this life: life is arranged correctly!
I always joyfully greeted him, and he, as I think, felt such my attitude.
Nevertheless, at the beginning of my career at the institute we had one conflict. He had a purely closed character and no one knows about him except A.I. Uliseev.
After I put together a strong geochemical group, and we took up a massive analysis of the gathered vast collections by Shchugor and undergoing, having come from vacation - I suddenly learn from my bay A.I. Veliseev that Fishman decided to take the laboratory room from us 59 (with an exhaust cabinet) - and transfer it to our chemists. The problem of premises at the institute was the sharpest, and chemists who fed the entire institute, in fact, were very in poverty. Here Fishman came to mind
The idea is to “dispossess” the rich Yudovich (maybe somehow it will break through-the guy is nimble).
However, such a decision was, alas, far from wise. Not only did it be accepted behind me; It was fundamentally fed by the whole geochemistry of organic matter , for which Fishman himself invited me to institute!
Alexander Ivanovich shredded his hands guiltily and said that he tried to convince the director, but could not ...
I realized that the moment is critical, and I have no one to hope for, only for myself. I sat down and wrote to Fishman a private memorandum, which I handed him, bypassing the bureaucratic instance. In it I indicated:
(a) I arrived in Syktyvkar at his invitation - to study organic geochemistry;
(b) honestly fulfilling my obligations, I created a laboratory base for this, found the right specialists and organized the work: by that time we had already done up to 1.5 thousand bitumenological tests per year;
(c) the deprivation of our cabinet 59 means the collapse of the entire “oil” topic, which was so important for the prestige of the institute in the eyes of the Obkomovsky authorities - it will be impossible to complete the topic;
(d) Accordingly, I have nothing more to do in this institute.
I don’t know what of these points turned out to be the most significant (it is quite possible that only the last one, because my departure also meant a loss for the branch of the apartment I just received in house 3 on Chernov Street!), But he came from the director Eliseev and told me - “Everything is in order; You can work further. "
I note that M.V. and I This issue was not discussed - there was never any conflict. And in our relations, this did not reflect in the future in any way.
5. Director in a difficult situation of choice
In September-October 1973, Marina Petrovna Ketris and I traveled along the golden sands to Bulgaria along Tourputhevka, and there we met with their longtime (but only in absentia!) Familiar-Associate Professor Greta from the University of Sophia.
Greta was engaged in the geochemistry of Bulgarian coals, and I had an intensive scientific correspondence with her. We settled in a cheap Tintyava hotel, and Greta, having taken a vacation at the university, came to us for several days: soak on the beach, buy in the sea and just get a lot of business on issues “representing mutual interest”. Among these issues was this: is it possible to arrange an edition of our book on the geochemistry of coal at Sofia University - in Russian? The book was written by us, but it did not manage to push it into the plan of publication of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
Greta promised to find out, and with that she left.
However, “communication with foreign citizens” for Soviet tourists was criminal, and the KGB spy included in our turbroup reported this.
Upon returning from Bulgaria, they began to drag me to the KGB, and the case (after long proceedings) ended with the fact that V.P. Podopolovov selected my admission (and I always had a second form - i.e. to the owls of secret materials).
Without a certificate, I could now not go to the field - they just did not give me topographic cards in special units! Thus, the deprivation of the admission geologist was a form of prohibition on the profession .
In this situation, Fishman began to demand from me - so that I would repent of my crimes - and then they could have mercy on me ...
I refused to repent, because I did not consider myself guilty. "But you cannot work!" - the director convinced me. - "Well, let it!" - I answered in steatness.
So it stretched for three years, through which I have been in the field - but not as the head of the detachment, but “on the patch” - at Lida Kyshtymova on Vychegda, with Volodya Chermany on Kozhim ...
As informed people later told me, Fishman raised aloud: “What should I do with it? On the one hand, the KGB and Poluglov without repentance will not be returned to Yudovich. However, he stupidly rests, and sooner or later he will have to quit. On the other hand, this is very undesirable for the institute, since Yudovich is a valuable frame. ”
Fishman realized that nothing can be achieved from such stubborn personalities like me - it means that it is necessary to apply “to a tanya”. And then he began to “roll” me - again and again to persistently convince me that to repent - alas, it still will have to, at least in a certain “weakened” form - without smearing the snot along the cheeks ...
And he achieved his own-in the end, I wrote a statement in which he admitted that he behaved incorrectly -i.e. He had private negotiations with a foreign citizen - bypassing the authorities (as I was intelligibly “explained” upon arrival - such negotiations could be carried out only through the relevant instances of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR).
In the spring of 1977, Eliseev came and said: “There is admission. You can get together in the field. "
Later it turned out that the vile "organs" returned me tolerance only in the third form, i.e. Militated once again.
In this story, Fishman proved himself as a subtle psychologist and as a very smart administrator. As a result, he spent the “organs”, and retained a valuable frame ...
6. There are true values !
On one of the anniversaries of Fishman, I raised a toast for his health - in the form of an advertisement of Inkombank: “ There are true values ! ".
I said that so far there is such a person like Fishman at the institute - we have some foundations of life - there are true values.
... And on December 5, 2003 he died, he was put in a coffin and buried.
He left, still completely preserving the clarity of his mind and even his humor, but completely tormented by the endless refusals of a fully worn heart. However, the image of the Syktyvkar Institute of Geology without Fishman, which led them for 24 years and then worked for another 18 years in it - is simply impossible. The Syktyvkar Institute of Geology and Fishman, this, as the poet said, “Gemini brothers” (as, by the way, Yushkin, who accepted the institute at Fishman and steering for 22 years-the worthy heir to Fishman).
This means that Fishman will continue to be with us not only in the portrait in front of the conference room (by the way, written with amazing similarities!), But also invisibly-in our memory. And while we are still alive, his younger contemporaries - he will be alive.
