The court acquitted Alexei Korolev, who was accused of violating fire safety rules, which entailed the death of 23 old people.

Recall that the tragedy happened on January 31 in the evening. A wooden house flashed like a candle and in a matter of minutes the flame swept the entire building. The nearest fire department was located 22 kilometers from the place of the tragedy, and when the calculations arrived at the place of fire, there was no one to save. Of the 26 residents of elderly residents in the house, many of whom could not get out of the burning building on their own, only three survived. The head of the Investigative Committee at the Podelsk, who arrived a few days later in the Podelsk prosecutor’s office, Alexander Bastrykin, immediately found the “switchman”. “You fried your wards and will sit,” he told the social worker Alexei Korolev, who, on duty, provided all the necessary residents of the burned house. On the same day, the queen was taken into custody, and a few days later he was charged with violation of fire safety rules, which entailed the death of two or more persons.

In support of Korolev, in fact, appointed by the authorities guilty of the deaths of the elderly, fellow countrymen who gathered in Podelsk a rural gathering, and human rights activists of the republic who organized public actions. Both those and others primarily demanded to let go of a social worker whose old diseases were aggravated in prison, from custody. In the end, the court changed the queen, who had served more than 8 months in the pre -trial detention center, the measure of restraint for a recognizance not to leave, but this happened only after the prisoner went through the treatment course in the prison hospital, and the main witnesses in the case showed testimony in court.

The process itself stretched for more than a year and at first, according to observers, was more likely a “indictment”. However, as the real background of the incident began at the meetings, the accusation began to crumble literally in front of the participants in the trial. It turned out that there was no “house of veterans” in Podelsk at all (there was an ordinary residential building in which lonely people of advanced age lived), and Korolev - neither in legal and in any other sense - he could not be the leader of the house and did not answer for his fire safety. He just experienced more than others for lonely old people, did more for them and was - but only in an informal sense - their main guardian and defender.

Nevertheless, the state prosecutor Yuri Ovchinnikov asked the court to impose a punishment for the queen in the form of three years in prison with his serving in the penal colony.

About a dozen residents of Podelsk and representatives of many republican media arrived at the verdict’s announcement. Judge Lyudmila Aksenova read the verdict within four hours with a break for lunch, being distracted only to make another remark to the bailiff, which distracted her with his movements at the meeting room. When the phrase “justify the lack of acts on the corpus delicti” sounded, Alexei Korolev could not restrain his tears.

Meanwhile, having justified the defendant, Lyudmila Aksenova read out three private decisions issued by the court to municipal and republican power bodies, which, optimizing the costs of social needs, did not want to assign a hostel in which lonely elderly people from all over the region, the official status of the nursing and disabled house with the arising from here, financing it with the financing content.

After the proclamation of the verdict, Alexei Korolev first fell into the arms of lawyers, and then fellow villagers.

Defender Korolev Mikhail Zhilin to the question of the correspondent of “7x7”, whether their client will file a claim for compensation for harm related to criminal prosecution, after the verdict enters into legal force, answered in the affirmative. As for the determination of the guilty of the last year in the winter of the tragedy, then, according to the lawyer, they are named in private decisions of the court: this is the owner of the burned -out building (administration of the Cortekes district) and the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan on social development.
