Klitschko chooses his opponent

World heavyweight champion according to the WBO and IBF boxing organizations, Ukrainian Vladimir Klitschko, who recently defended his titles in a fight against Nigerian Samuel Peter, said that he will hold another fight before the end of the year.

According to the plans of the Ukrainian boxer, the fight should take place in December, and it is possible that it will be organized at the Donbass Arena stadium in Donetsk, built for the 2012 European Football Championship. The youngest of the Klitschko brothers intends to decide on his opponent in the near future. “One of the contenders is David Tua. Also considered are Cuban Solis, Chris Arreola, and the same Alexander Povetkin. I will make my decision within two to three weeks,” said Vladimir Klitschko. There was no place on this list for David Haye, a meeting with whom the Klitschko brothers had long dreamed of. But the Briton still has to defend his WBA title against Audley Harrison on November 13.

McGeady called up to Ireland squad

The rivals of the Russian national football team in the Euro 2012 qualifying round have decided on their squads. Both the Irish national team, with which the Russians will play on October 8 in Dublin, and the Macedonian national team, which will host Dick Advocaat's team on October 12 in Skopje, have a place for players playing in the Russian championship. Spartak Moscow midfielder Aiden McGeady was called up to the Irish training camp, and the Macedonians included Siberia midfielder Shumulikoski and Amkar forward Ristic.

Russians qualified for the World Grand Prix

The Russian women's volleyball team won one of two tickets to the 2011 World Grand Prix, played at the European continental qualifications in Cagliari (Italy).

On the island of Sardinia, the wards of head coach Vladimir Kuzyutkin solved their problem ahead of schedule, one round before the end of the competition, thanks to their fourth victory in a row. The Grand Prix reform project involves the participation of 16 teams in the 2011 tournament, but so far the tickets have been distributed according to the old regulations (a dozen trophy applicants). Previously, Poland (wild card) and Serbia (Euroleague 2010 champion) received places from Europe.

Kolodinsky is again the best pitcher on the planet

The International Volleyball Federation, through a survey of players, judges, coaches and officials, determined the winners of the 2010 season in the beach version of the game. Russian Igor Kolodinsky, nicknamed Bazooka, became the best pitcher for the fourth year in a row, based on objective indicators of ball speed. At the Moscow stage of the Grand Slam series, Bazooka performed a serve, after which special radars recorded a speed of 108.7 km/h. True, the world record of the same Kolodinsky is 114 km/h.

Other Russians were also mentioned in the questionnaires, and Konstantin Semenov was very close to being recognized as the best newcomer of the year, but he was still ahead of Estonian Karl Jaani. Never before have our beachgoers appeared in such numbers in surveys. Kolodinsky also came second in the “Best Attacker” category. The largest number of individual prizes was won by the Beijing 2008 Olympic champion, American Phil Dalhausser - he is the MVP, the best striker, setter, blocker, owner of the strongest and most effective attacking blow.

UNICS and Khimki opened the European Cup season

Basketball players from Kazan UNICS and Khimki near Moscow won their first matches of the opening round of the ULEB Euroleague selection.

Of the 24 places in the tournament of the strongest teams of the Old World, two are reserved for the winners of the qualification, where 15 clubs entered the competition. To qualify for the Euroleague, you need to successfully complete three rounds of two-game competitions. Khimki started with a hard-fought away victory over the Italian Caserta - 77:74. American Keith Langford brought 19 points to our club. A long time ago, in the late 1990s, the Nigerian Olumide Oyedeji played for the hosts, defending the colors of the capital Dynamo. UNICS also beat the Dutch “Groningen”, which is staffed by six Americans, on the road – 84:72. In the team from the banks of the Volga, Pole Maciej Lampe scored 26 points. The return matches will take place on September 24.

Chess Olympiad has started

The World Chess Olympiad has started in Khanty-Mansiysk. 148 men's and 114 women's teams from 144 countries take part in it. As a rule, in the first round the favorites have downright weak opponents. The first Russian men's team defeated Ireland - 3.5:0.5. Peter Svidler, Sergey Karjakin, Vladimir Malakhov won their games, and only Alexander Grischuk on the first board with white pieces was content with a draw. However, this peaceful outcome did not matter for calculating the main points in the standings - Russia received two points for the overall victory. On the women's side, Nadezhda Kosintseva, Alexandra Kosteniuk, Alisa Gallyamova and Valentina Gunina easily defeated the chess players from Bangladesh - 4:0.
