Placido Domingo leaves the post of director of the Washington National Opera

The famous Spanish tenor Placido Domingo decided to leave the post of general director of the Washington National Opera (WNO) in June 2011, RIA Novosti reports with reference to AP.

The legendary singer, who headed the Washington opera for seven years, announced his intention to resign during a press conference in Los Angeles, noting that he was not going to extend the current contract.

“I think that the company has come for the company, it may be worth thinking about a merger with the theater -concert center named after John Kennedy ... In any case, I will do everything in my power while I stay in this place,” the agency quoted the agency of Domingo quoted.

“Cooperation with Placido helped us gain worldwide recognition, but sooner or later it ends,” said Kenneth Faynberg, president of the Washington opera, not hiding that Tenor's departure would adversely affect the popularity of the institution, which has recently experienced serious difficulties in financing.

According to the American media, the singer, who is constantly traveling through the tour, has repeatedly been criticized for his role as a "wedding general." Domingo, who should be 70 years old next year, was torn between the singing career and the leadership of opera theaters in Washington and in Los Angeles.

Placido Domingo was born on January 21, 1941 in Madrid (Spain). At the age of 8, he moved to Mexico, where he received a musical education at the National Conservatory, was a backwood vocalist of the rock and roll group Los Black Jeans under the leadership of Cesar Costa.
