“Monsters” are released on the screens - an English fantastic film about aliens and love
The debut directorial work of the young, but already quite noticeable in England, the Gareth Edwards master’s special effects, was withdrawn in a couple of weeks, for microscopic money, with just two professional actors and, according to the creators (who you completely believe), almost without a script. Nevertheless, the film attracted the attention of world distributors (in Russia the “monsters” come out with the preamble “Timur Bekmambetov”) - it seems, first of all, their straightforwardness. There is no “Monstro” cunning, there are no humanistic ambitions of the “War of the Worlds”, all the more there is no provocation by “district No. 9”, the best film about aliens of recent years with which “monsters” are trying to mechanically compare. According to the art manner, Edwards’s picture is more likely a strange guest from the evening broadcast of the TV-3 channel from the heading like “an hour and a half with a monstrous”.Six years ago, scientists from NASA launched a probe on some planet in order to find out if there is life there. Returning, the shuttle for some reason collapsed over Central America, and this whole life from there, not asking anyone, crawled out. As if responding to the old fears of mankind, the aliens were like huge luminous octopuses or squids with remarkable power. For several years, they occupied the northern part of Mexico, which turned into an “infected zone”. But at the time of the mating season, monsters go to rage in neighboring territories. This information fits in a couple of minutes of prologue.
By the time of the film’s actions to aliens are already a little used to. Some even make a career on them. So, the photojournal, Andrew Colder (Scheut Maknari, the protagonist of the pretty melodrama “in search of a midnight kiss”) goes to Mexico just on the eve of the wedding season - to try to get personnel, if not the monsters themselves, then the destruction they committed. But the work is in the mashmark when, on behalf of the owner of the newspaper, where Andrew serves, he has to engage in delivery back to the borders of the United States for some reason, also in Mexico, the daughter of Boss Samantha (Winty Able). Due to a number of absurdities, the heroes do not fall on the ferry, and they have to go through the infected area, exposed to the dangers of meetings with monsters. United by threat, unprincipled, but in the soul a good journalist and bourgeois, but again in the soul a free girl fall in love with each other.
The “monsters”, which is strange with the main profession of their director, radically deceive expectations. Spectators, going to the film about the invasion of alien squids, most likely expect that the monsters will rest in the frame of many buildings and vehicles, and the main occupation of people will ask the rhetorical questions “What is it, have it?” Was it? And "What sins is this punishment for us?" In the “monsters”, ominous aliens appear two and a half times and rather cause not fear, but bewilderment. Most of the screen time is occupied by second -rate romance with views and sighs. The idea here, in general, is clear: with giant squids, people will still fall in love, as during a long war or with a poor state structure. It is not very clear only why someone is interested in listening to someone.
