Resin joined United Russia

The temporarily acting mayor of Moscow Vladimir Resin was accepted into United Russia. According to RIA Novosti, Resin filed an application with the federal United Russia, to the Presidium of the General Council. “In some cases, this is allowed according to the charter,” said Natalya Burtseva, spokeswoman for the Moscow city department of EP. According to her, Resin has been a supporter of the party for several years, while the party charter provides for membership in United Russia at least six months of being among the supporters.

As reported on the official website of United Russia, Resin submitted an application for joining the party on October 5. Before that, he met with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. As the press secretary of the head of government Dmitry Peskov told Gazeta.ru, at Putin’s meeting with Vozin, “current issues of the city’s economic activity, and current socio-economic issues of the life of the capital” were discussed.

Usually Putin does not meet with the temporarily acting heads of regions. "The meeting is due to the special status of Moscow and the scale of the processes flowing here," Peskov explained. When asked if the meeting is connected with the process of choosing candidates for the mayor, Peskov replied: "Probably not. But I can not exclude that some elements of this process were discussed."

The 74-year-old Resin temporarily headed the city hall on September 28, when President Dmitry Medvedev dismissed Yuri Luzhkov "in connection with the loss of confidence." The former mayor left United Russia, where he occupied one of the leading posts. On October 9, "United Russia" will present the president with a list of candidates for the post of mayor.
