The case of the daughter of the chairman of the regional electoral committee, Lyudmila Shavenkova, will be reviewed, RIA Novosti reports. The Irkutsk Regional Court overturned the decision of the Kirovsky District Court of Irkutsk, which in August sentenced her to three years in prison in a colony-settlement with a 14-year suspension of punishment due to the birth of a child.
The case will be heard by a new panel of judges.
Recall that the case caused a great public outcry. Shavenkova faced up to five years in prison. She fully admitted her guilt, and the case was considered in a special judicial order. The investigation found that a Toyota Corolla car driven by Anna Shavenkova in December in Irkutsk flew at high speed onto the sidewalk near the Baikal State University of Economics and Law and knocked down Yulia and Elena Pyatkov. They were thrown several meters away, and the car crashed into the porch of the university. The collision with pedestrians was recorded by a video camera. It can be seen how Shavenkova, after the accident, first of all began to inspect the damage to the car. She did not approach the downed women; passers-by called an ambulance.
Elena Pyatkova subsequently died, Yulia became an invalid.
