A traditional event called “Return of Names” is taking place in Moscow on October 29. During the day, from 10 am to 10 pm, people gathering near the Solovetsky Stone on Lubyanka Square - human rights activists, politicians and everyone who considers it their duty to honor the memory of the victims of Soviet repression - read the sad list of those executed: name, surname, age, profession , date of execution. It should be recalled that, according to the International Memorial Society, more than 700 thousand people were shot in the terrible years of 1937-1938 alone, but these years did not end the time of brutal political repression. During the day there are several excursions related to the history of political repression -
Military Collegium of the Supreme Court, Political Red Cross, Government House (house museum on the embankment), Ivanovo Monastery (former concentration camp), House of Political Prisoners
On the same day, a monument to Catholics of the USSR was consecrated in St. Petersburg - bishops, priests, monastics and laity of all rites and nationalities who became victims of political repression.
And on October 30 in Moscow at the same Solovetsky stone from 15.00 to 16.30 there will be a rally against the persecution of dissidents, disliked representatives of civil society, entrepreneurs, and scientists in post-Soviet times. The rally participants will demand an end to the shameful farce called the trial of Khodorkovsky and Lebedev, and the release of all convicted Yukos employees; release of scientists serving sentences on fabricated cases; ending the persecution of the National Bolsheviks and representatives of other opposition parties and movements. Famous politicians, scientists, writers, and civil activists will speak at the rally. The action has been approved.
The organizers of the action are the Memorial Human Rights Center, the Moscow branch of Solidarity, and the Union of Solidarity with Political Prisoners.
