Czech Republic intends to introduce direct presidential elections

The Czech Republic intends to introduce direct elections of the head of state since 2013 - so far all presidents of both the Czech Republic and earlier Czechoslovakia have been elected by parliament. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the Czech radio.

The new constituency, prepared by the Minister of Internal Affairs of the country Radek Jon, introduces direct presidential elections.

The document enshrines the possibility of voting by mail or by passing an envelope with a ballot ballot in the administrations of cities and villages.

However, as Czech analysts note, the most important innovation is the introduction of direct elections of the Czech president since 2013.

According to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Czech Republic, the new constituency must enter into force on October 1, 2012, since in the spring of 2013 the powers of the current president of the country Vaclav Claus will end.

It is also proposed to begin the transition to electronic elections that the Czech Republic could try it out two years later, during the elections to the Senate (Upper House of Parliament).
