The founder of Wikileaks is ready to surrender to the British police

The founder of the WikiLeaks site Julian Assange is ready to surrender to the British police. According to BBC, his lawyer Mark Stevens said about it. "Now we are preparing a voluntary meeting with the police in order to answer the necessary questions," the lawyer said.

He noted that the Assange is wanted by the Swedish authorities for interrogation and no charges were brought against him. Stevens did not clarify exactly when such a meeting could take place. According to British laws, after the police become known the exact location of Assange, he will be obliged to come to the court within 24 hours.

Earlier, Stevens and the Swedish lawyer of Assange Bjorn Khorti said that they would dispute attempts to extradite the client to Sweden in case of detention. In November, the Stockholm court approved a request from the prosecutor’s office to detain the 39-year-old Australian accused of rape and sexual harassment, and on November 20, Interfolf spread among all 188 participating countries of the Red Notification in the name of Assange, equivalent to its list of the most wanted persons.

However, according to Stevens, Scotland Yard initially rejected the warrant due to inconsistency with legal norms. On Monday, the British authorities received all the necessary documents.

The day before it became known that the Swiss bank Postfinance froze Assange's accounts. The bank said that the Assange, when opening an account, indicated to Geneva as his place of residence, and during verification this information was false. "Assange cannot provide evidence of living in Switzerland and therefore does not meet the requirements for Postfinance customers. For this reason, Postfinance has the right to close its account," the bank said. According to the WikiLeaks press release, Assange’s personal money and funds for paying for the services of his lawyers totaling 31 thousand euros were placed on the Swiss bank.

Prior to this, a number of companies conducting Internet payments, including PayPal, stopped cooperation with the site. “Last week, PayPal froze 60 thousand euros received from the German charity organization WAU Holland Foundation,” the WikiLeaks statement said. “These are donations intended to contribute to the exchange of information through Wikileaks.”

Wikileaks underwent a serious pressure from the US government, which was especially intensified after the publication of hundreds of secret reports of American diplomats. As the US Prosecutor General Eric Holder made it clear on Monday, the American authorities will try to find a suitable legislative act, the violation of which can be incriminated by the 39-year-old Australian.
