The mayor of the capital of Armenia Yerevan Gagik Beglaryan staged a brawl with the deputy head of the Protocol of the President of the country Arama Kandayan. The reason for the beating was a quarrel due to places for the concert of the famous singer Placido Domingo, held last week. According to Interfax , the Aikakan Zhamanak Armenian newspaper writes that Beglaryan decided to deal with Kandayan after the deputy head of the presidential protocol made a careless remark to the wife of the mayor.
The concert of the world famous tenor was attended by senior officials, headed by Armenia President Sergei Sargsyan. Invitation tickets for a concert by officials was handed out by the Minister of Culture Asmik Pogayan. Among the invited were the mayor of Yerevan Gagik Beglaryan with his wife. However, the mayor did not go to the concert, but gave tickets to his wife, who invited her friend to the event.
According to the newspaper, the mayor’s wife and his girlfriend, having come to the Karen Demircyan sports and concert complex, sat on the chairs standing next to the place prepared for Armenia President Serzh Sargsyan, writes the Armenian site Tert.am. Only Catholicos of all Armenians, the speaker of parliament and the Prime Minister can sit in the protocol in these places, the Armenian media note. An employee of the protocol department of the Kandan turned to the wife of Gagik Beglaryan and asked the women to transfer.
Such a request outraged the wife of the Yerevan mayor, and she complained to the mayor. Beglaryan, deciding to punish Kandayan, beat him after the concert. As it became known, the head of the presidential apparatus Karen Karapetyan helped to organize a meeting with Kandayan Beglaryan.
After the concert, the mayor took Kandayan on a car to the Metax factory belonging to him and there brutally beaten for the impudent request addressed to his wife. According to the press, the Blagryan began showdowns in the car on the way to the factory. The mayor allegedly hit Kandayan in the face, indignantly telling him: "Who are you to tell my wife, where to sit down!" According to the Armenian media, according to some reports, Kandayan's face after beating "mutilated".
Meanwhile, the newspaper "Aykakan Zhamanak" expressed a version that the true cause of the fight could be "political revenge." According to the Armenia News website, the father of Aram Kandayan Ruben Kandan in 1999 was a close associate of the leader of the People’s Party of Armenia Karen Demirchean, and his candidacy was nominated in the election to local self -government. He was considered the main rival of Gagik Beglaryan. “It is possible that what happened to Aram Kandayan somehow is the revenge of his father,” said the newspaper Aykakan Zhamanak.
The incident with a beating caused a real scandal. According to the newspaper, deputy head of the presidential apparatus, son -in -law of Armenian President Mikael Minasyan personally talked with Beglaryan and made it clear that he had time until the next Monday. The mayor was supposed to either apologize to the beaten Kandayan and the entire protocol service team, or resign.
The President of Armenia was also informed about what happened. Serge Sargsyan demanded an explanation of the head of the apparatus of President Karen Karapetyan. The head of state, at a meeting with members of the Public Council, publicly read Karapetyan for the inability to protect the members of his apparatus. According to some reports, he recognized his mistake and expressed his readiness to resign. However, the press secretary of the President of Armenia denied reports of the resignation of Karapetyan.
It is not known about whether the president with the instigator of the fight Gagik Beglaryan and the battered Aram Kandayan talked. According to Armenian journalists, a source in the president’s residence, Serge Sargsyan refuses to accept the mayor of Yerevan and listen to his explanations about the fight, since the president is "very offended and outraged."
The press service of the Yerevan City Hall, the information presented in the media outlined, refused, referring to the employment of the press secretary of the metropolitan administration. The affected employee of the Protocol of the President of Armenia Kandan also refused to communicate with journalists.
