Human rights defenders continue to be beaten

On December 14, Evgeniy Bobrov, an employee of the Memorial human rights center, was brutally beaten at the door of his own house in the village of Selyapino, Naro-Fominsk district, Moscow region. Two people attacked him, knocked him down, and kicked him in the face and head. He suffered a concussion and lost vision in one eye.

Bobrov was involved in protecting the rights of people who suffered damage as a result of housing issues. First of all, his clients were refugees, disabled people, and hostel residents. There is a version that Bobrov was attacked by illegal hostel owners, since he participated in successfully bringing to court cases to protect the rights of residents who had been violated by them. The last case that Bobrov led was related to a municipal dormitory in Khimki, where the human rights activist defended the interests of residents of the dormitories of ZIL and OJSC Karbolit.

Exactly a week before the attack on Bobrov, another Memorial employee, Bakhrom Khamroev, was beaten. According to Memorial, he was attacked by a law enforcement official. This happened when Khamroev went to the apartment of his acquaintance, a native of Kyrgyzstan, who complained that armed people had broken into his home.
