The Chairman of the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan was arrested for 10 days

The court arrested the Chairman of the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan (IP) Movsum Samedov and three members of this party, Interfax was told in the Binyagadinsky district court of Baku.

"By a court decision for an administrative offense for a period of ten days, Movsum Samedov, his deputy Vagif Abdullaev and driver Mirguseyn Kazimov and IP Elchin Hasanov were arrested," the court said on Saturday. “These persons were sentenced to hooliganism,” they added in court.

IPA was created in the early 90s. However, in 1997, the party’s activities were temporarily suspended in connection with the arrest of the Chairman of the Supreme Council of IP Haji Muzaffer Dzhebrailzade on charges of espionage in favor of Iran. Two years later, IPA has restored its activities, but to the present, the party was not able to restore state registration in the Ministry of Justice.

Samedov was elected chairman of the IPA at the next party congress in July 2007.
