The population of Mari El was brought unscheduled joy. It was reported that sketches of a new coat of arms and a new flag of the republic would be ready in early February. And there it remains only to approve them in Moscow, to amend the republican constitution, and everyone will be happy.
Clearly, people were just waiting for this. After all, the current symbols of the Mari state were modified for the last, fourth, time a very long time ago - already in November 2006. Of course, somewhere on the side of the world, people get used to the old, old symbols. In the United States, for example, the coat of arms has not been modified since 1884, and the flag since 1818. But our progressive person is unbearable for the fifth year to live and toil under a morally decaying flag and an emblem that is becoming obsolete before our eyes, when everything around is rapidly changing for the better.
Beginning of February… Sketches haven't been made public yet. People are starting to get worried. They are no longer up to rising prices, not to problems of housing and communal services, not even to corruption - they want to take a quick look at the symbols. But there is no need to worry: everything is started seriously. In January, Alexander Kazimov, director of the Mari Research Institute of Language, Literature and History, spoke at the Heraldic Council under the President of the Republic. And he said that the current flag and coat of arms have fulfilled their task at the past stage.
What task was set before the coat of arms and flag is not entirely clear. If Mordovia is surpassed in terms of the average monthly accrued salary and leaves the last, fourteenth, place in the Volga Federal District in terms of this indicator, then it seems to have succeeded. And let Mordovia live with the old symbols. Until, as they say, he does not make good with his coat of arms.
The initiative to update the state symbols came from the President of the Republic, Leonid Markelov, and what Alexander Kazimov said at the Heraldic Council should be quoted word for word. Otherwise, not everyone will catch the subtleties of the idea: “Leonid Igorevich proposed to make the image of a bear the main figure of the coat of arms. And how to emphasize, that's it, power? Moreover, the peculiarity of power ... "
Nothing more to emphasize. In a country where the symbol of the ruling party is a bear, and the name of the president is Medvedev, it would be short-sighted to draw a raccoon or a marten on the coat of arms.
As conceived by the head of the region, a crown should flaunt on the head of a bear. “And if we also add a symbol of labor, the industriousness of the population to the paw of a bear,” Kazimov continued, “a hammer, for example, and a symbol of strong, strong power — a sword or an arrow, all sorts of options are possible, then we get an even deeper meaning.”
In general, who will come to us with a hammer ... Or whatever? Whoever comes to us with investments, at the sight of a new coat of arms, will immediately understand that he has landed in a mighty Volga state. Albeit subsidized. Even with a large public debt. Although it no longer chooses its own president, but only agrees with the choice of the federal center. Although it does not have a free press, but is content with a sensitive media, always ready to assent and succumb to the big bosses.
“Five years have passed,” Mariyskaya Pravda sympathetically comments on the situation with the symbols, “the state of affairs in the republic has changed for the better. And, therefore, there was a need to create a new coat of arms that would reflect the renewed republic ... "
The Republic is undoubtedly being renewed. Hospitals, schools, ice palaces and swimming pools are being built. Gas is being carried out, growth rates are observed in some industries. But, oddly enough, the renewed republic is still leaving more people than they come here. And the death rate in Mari El significantly exceeds the birth rate.
With local bears, by the way, not all is well either. According to the published data of the Republican Department of Wildlife, the number of clubfoot in the local forests is clearly decreasing. Or bears, following the example of the inhabitants of Mari El, who were forced to leave to work, went to the forests of neighboring regions for food. Whether, like people, how much they die in vain from diseases. Well, at least the long-standing misfortune of the local population - fatal poisoning by alcohol surrogates - does not affect the bears.
