GLONASS-K arrived at the Plesetsk cosmodrome

The GLONASS-K spacecraft, the launch of which was scheduled for February 24, 2011, was delivered to the Plesetsk cosmodrome, the official representative of the press service and information of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation for the space forces, Lieutenant Colonel Alexei Zolotukhin, told Interfax on February 11.

Next, the satellite checks will be made to determine his readiness for the start.

Previously, the launch of the Soyuz-2-1B launch vehicle with the Frigat acceleration unit and the Glonass-K satellite was planned for December 28, 2010, but was postponed due to the “need for additional checks of all technical systems” at the developer.

GLONASS-K is the first domestic navigation satellite of leakage execution with an active existence of 10 years, intended to modernize the orbital grouping of the Russian global navigation satellite system GLONASS.

It is the third generation of satellites of this series (the first generation is GLONASS, the second is GLONASS -M).
