The Skolkovo Foundation has announced a competition for the best name for a technological university. For now, this scientific and educational institution is only in the project and according to the plans of the creators, it will take a central place in the ecosystem of the Skolkovo science city.
“This will be a small master’s and postgraduate university, whose education and innovative activities will be based on interdisciplinary research. The university will be international, classes will be conducted in English,” noted in his address to the participants of the open competition . Oleg Alekseev, vice-president of the Skolkovo Foundation, chief managing director for education and research,
“Until now, we have used a code name to refer to it. But now we want to turn to you - as a community of creative people - for help in choosing a name for the university that reflects its essence and has a sonorous abbreviation in English,” he emphasized. Name ideas are accepted on the page www.i-gorod.com/about/competition/
The authors of the most successful names will be mentioned on the Skolkovo website, and the best idea will be used in the name of the future university. O. Alekseev also noted that so far the founders of the university have not gone beyond the idea of calling the new educational institution SIT (Skolkovo Institute of Technology) or SIST (Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology).
Ironic Facebook users have already suggested that the new university be named after the notorious Prince Potemkin, then it could be called Skolkovo Potemkin Technological University (SPTU). On my blog, the progressive community offered two such options:
Skolkovo University of Creative Innovation (SUKI) (C) grey_dolphin Skolkovo high institute of technology (SHIT) (C) hvost
However, almost immediately one of the options was rejected. “The abbreviation SUKI has long been occupied by the Central Ural Book Publishing House (Ekaterinburg),” noted a user with the nickname ayac. TrV-Science will monitor developments.
