In Moscow, the investigator for particularly important cases of the Investigative Committee of Russia Valery Meshcheryakov: he was part of the brigade investing the case of the murder of the Magadan governor Valery Tsvetkov. The criminals attacked Meshcheryakov near his house on Chobotovskaya Street in Novo-Pedelkino, when he returned home at about half past one night. In the back to the investigator, two unknown people ran up, hit him on the head with some heavy object, knocked him down, brutally beaten his feet, and then stole his official certificate, portfolio and disappeared. To the police, the investigator said that the raiders were talking with the Caucasian accent.

Doctors recorded numerous bruises and abrasions from the victim, put the seams on a broken chin. On the fact of an attack on the investigator, the local ATS opened a criminal case under Art. 162 of the Criminal Code ("robbery").

Valery Meshcheryakov was one of the main investigators who were conducting the murder of the Magadan Governor of Tsvetkov in 2002. On the eve of the attack on the investigator, the jury recognized four accused of involvement in the murder - Martin Babakehean, Arthur Anisimov, Masis Akhunts and Alexander Zakharov, all of them received long terms of imprisonment.

Detectives do not exclude that the attack may be revenge on the part of the convicts, noting that robbers did not interest the mobile phone, hours and wallets of the victim. The night when the attack was committed was very cold, but the attackers were clearly waiting for the investigator, despite the frost.

It also turned out that shortly before the attack, the investigator was called from an unknown number, and the calling was driving a bus along the same route as the investigator himself. According to Meshcheryakov’s relatives, the unknown, apparently, did not know the investigator by person and tried to identify, calling him on his mobile.

Meanwhile, the law enforcement agencies said that they did not associate the attack on Meshcheryakov with his official activities. “We do not connect that attack with Meshcheryakov’s official activity,” a law enforcement source told Interfax . Meshcheryakov was a member of the investigative brigade to investigate the murder of the governor, "However, he was not the head of this brigade, but was seconded to it," the agency’s interlocutor said.

In addition, the lawyers of the convicts consider assumptions about revenge on the part of relatives or friends of the defendants of the case by the case. According to them, Meshcheryakov is one of many investigators who conducted this business, and there is nothing to take revenge on him.
