
Today, the UN Security Council approved a resolution on the imposition of international sanctions against Muamar Gaddafi and his environment, RIA Novosti reports. From now on, the Libyan leader and his close associates are forbidden to leave the country, their foreign accounts are frozen, an embargo for trading with Libya weapons was introduced.
The resolution of the Security Council also states that the mass death of Libyan citizens during the initiated Gaddafi dispersal of anti -government demonstrations can be regarded as a crime against humanity. In this regard, the International Criminal Court is instructed to begin an investigation of such incidents. The decision of the SB emphasizes that attacks on civilians were planned "at the highest level of the Libyan government." According to the constant representative of Russia at the UN Vitaly Churkin, our country supported the resolution based on the "serious concern about the events taking place in Libya."
Recall that the draft document was submitted to the Security Council on February 26 with the support of the UK, France, Germany and the USA. On Friday, with the request of “take specific actions”, the general general of the UN Pan Hi Moon turned to the council.
