Digitized books on the RFBR website
As you know, the Russian Foundation for Basic Research carries out many different programs, including publishing ones. Hundreds of books have been published with the support of the foundation. True, often a book comes out in a tiny print run and you won’t find it. But now a new important step has been taken. Now the books are available in electronic form on the website http://rffi.moLnet.ru/rffi/ru/Lib .
In total, more than 600 books have been posted. Most of all - in Earth sciences (more than one and a half hundred). More than a hundred books are in each of the sections “physics and astronomy” and “mathematics, mechanics, computer science”. In addition, the site contains several hundred popular science articles in all areas of knowledge. Here, the leaders are “biology and medical sciences” and “physics and astronomy” (about a hundred articles each).
Everything is laid out in the DJVU format and is intended for reading on the site, but for now craftsmen are finding a way to download materials. It’s not clear why the creators don’t just put a “download” button. Firstly, the book was paid for by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and may well belong to the community. Secondly, if someone needs a paper version for work and can buy it, then people will do it anyway, because the advantages of hardcopy in this case are obvious.
Be that as it may, it’s great that the materials appeared online. I am sure that they will be in great demand.
