On March 16, the son of Muammar Gaddafi, safe al-Islam, said Libya financed the election campaign of French President Nicolas Sarkozy in 2007. The son of the leader of the Libyan Jamahiria gave an interview to Euronews , in which he promised to provide evidence of his words. The al-Islam safe claimed that he has documents that compromise sarcose.
In an interview, the son of Gaddafi called the French president the “clown”, said he was disappointed in him and demanded that Sarkozi “return all the money to the Libyan people”. “We have bank accounts, documents, bank transfers. And we will unveil all this soon, ”the safe al -Islam threatened.
The reaction from the French followed almost immediately. The French government called such claims “absurd” and reminded that for French politicians any financing by foreign states is illegal.
Nevertheless, the verbal skirmish between representatives of the French and Libyan authorities continues not the first day. Earlier, Muammar Gaddafi also spoke very hard at the French president. “Today, France raises his head and claims that she wants to attack Libya. You, a fool, do you want to attack Libya? We will attack you! Come on, come, try to attack us! ”, Gaddafi said to Western journalists.
Last week, the leader of the Libyan Revolution called Sarkozy “crazy” and threatened that he would soon reveal the “serious” secret about him. “My friend Nicolas Sarkozy suffers from mental illness. This is said by people who are next to him, ”said Gaddafi.
In fact, such statements from the Caddafi clan are a response to the activities of Sarkozy himself. From the very beginning of Libyan riots, France most actively called for external intervention in Libyan affairs and spoke out in support of the rebels. After negotiations with his Turkish colleague Abdullah Gyul at the end of February, Sarkozy said that Gaddafi had to leave his post and that the violence that is observed in Libya is unacceptable. Sarkozy demanded an international investigation and application of sanctions against the Libyan leadership.
In addition, France became the first country to recognize the power of the national transition council of rebels in Libya to advocate the overthrow of the current government. In fact, this meant a break in relations with the regime of Muammar Gaddafi.
According to the Swiss newspaper Le Temps , the news of the French president recognizing the opposition government was met in Tripoli with bitterness. The translator of Gaddafi, Mofta Missouri, told the publication that the Libyan leader considered Sarczya his friend and felt that he had been betrayed. According to Missouri, who at one time was responsible for contacts with France in the Libyan Foreign Ministry, warm relations between the two countries were no secret to anyone and sometimes even went beyond the diplomatic framework.
Nicolas Sarkozy visited Libya in 2007. The President of France personally asked for the release of Bulgarian nurses, who were accused of intentional infection of AIDS children and sentenced to death. At the same time, Sarkozy agreed with the Libyan leader on major contracts in the energy and military-technical regions.
Now the French president is the main initiator of sanctions against the Gaddafi regime. Last week, France, along with Great Britain, was actively urging the UN Security Council to begin international military operations in Libya. However, this initiative did not meet the understanding of the countries - the participants of the "big eight". Disagreements immediately caused a portion of grievances and accusations.
Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said that on the shoulders of the West lies part of the responsibility for the success of the Kaddafi troops, who had repelled large territories from the rebels in recent days. The constant representative of France at the UN Gerard Aro, noted that the Sarkozy administration was "deeply upset by the inability of the UN Security Council." In the British House of Commons, Prime Minister David Cameron warned that "time is passing."
Nobody directly called neither Germany nor the United States, but it was obvious to whom criticism was directed, the German der Spiegel writes (full translation on Inosmi ). The publication recalls that the German government opposed the British and French proposals for military operations in all international organizations.
It should be noted that the threats of Gaddafi and his son to reveal the “whole truth” about Sarkozy, providing certain documents, are fully consistent with the trend that was most clearly manifested after a series of scandalous publications of WikiLeaks. So, after the elections in Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, who defeated them, criticized the opposition and promised to publish the incriminating evidence on them, which he called the “Belarusian WikiLeaks”. On the Internet, materials were distributed that spoke about Poland's involvement in the organization of opposition unrest on December 19, 2010. The Poland Foreign Ministry immediately stated that this information is not true, and the dispatches themselves are fakes.
Even if Libya releases any documents, proclaiming them with compromising evidence on Sarkoi, the situation will still remain ambiguous. The French leader, in turn, can name these evidence fabricated and provide materials testifying to his innocence. As practice shows, the publication of such exposing materials does not lead to serious consequences for any of the parties and does not greatly affect the opinion of the world community.
