Gonchar will not help the team

Sergei Gonchar is unlikely to play at the World Championships in Slovakia

Defender Sergei Gonchar will most likely not be able to take part in the World Championships in Slovakia . The defensive player recently suffered a concussion and now believes that he will not be fully prepared for this tournament.

“Of course, I would like to go to the national team. But I’m unlikely to have time to fully recover,” he told Soviet Sport . “I haven’t been on the ice yet, and it’s unknown when I will be.” And at the World Cup you need to be 100 percent healthy to benefit the team.”

For the national team, Gonchar, who never refused to come to the national team, played at three world championships, including the last one in Germany , where he scored four assists. He also took part in four Olympic Games, including Vancouver , where he scored one goal, as well as in two World Cups (1996 and 2004).

Nikolai Zherdev's goal and Sergei Bobrovsky's 32 saves did not save Philadelphia from defeat by the Rangers. The New York club, whose goalkeeper Henrik Lundqvist also made 32 saves, won in a shootout. Pavel Datsyuk's assist helped his Detroit beat Minnesota. The regular season of the National Hockey League is steadily moving towards its end. And the Swede turned out to be more dexterous in this confrontation. Erik Christensen scored the winning shootout against Bobrovsky.

Hot on the heels of the Rangers, Buffalo and Carolina met in a head-to-head confrontation at the latter's arena. The match between these teams turned out to be even more stubborn and ineffective. During the hour of play, the opponents scored only a puck. Moreover, both of them were scored in the first half of the match. Chris Butler opened the scoring in the 11th minute of the match, and Eric Staal restored the status quo in the 6th minute of the second period. The decisive goal was scored by Blades defender Marc-Andre Gragnani at the beginning of the 3rd minute of overtime.

“Detroit” beat Minnesota on their ice without much difficulty – 4:2.

The only hockey player who represented Russia in this match was Pavel Datsyuk. The 13th number of the “red wings” spent 17 minutes and 50 seconds on the ice, during which he managed to score an assist during the power play.

Bluesmen defender Nikita Nikitin made a certain contribution to St. Louis’s away victory over Columbus. In one of his team’s six goals, to which the “blue jackets” responded only with a goal, the Russian acted as an assistant. Fedor Tyutin, who played for the hosts, finished the match with a usefulness rating of -1.
