The British Prince Harry completed his Arctic journey - on Friday evening he flew from the Russian Ice Base Barneo to Svalneo, from where he went to Oslo with a regular plane. Earlier it was reported that Prince Harry could not leave the Russian polar camp due to damage to the runway.
“At 17:15 Moscow time, the prince landed in Longgian, left the plane and immediately moved to the SAS plane, who took him and his accompanies on a flight to Oslo,” Irina Orlova, president of the Pole expedition center, told RIA Novosti .
As reported, Prince Harry, who takes third place in the list of applicants for the British throne - after his father, Prince of Wales and brother, Prince William, during his Arctic tour participated in the campaign of the British Afghans veterans to the North Pole, which started with Barneo.
The action is charity in nature, its goal is to draw attention to the activities of the fund that helps veterans of hostilities. Having passed with the veterans part of the route, the prince on a helicopter returned to the base. “He was also brought by helicopter to the North Pole,” Orlova said.
According to her, the prince on the arrival of Spitsbergen was handed over to a congratulation on behalf of the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for international cooperation in the Arctic and Antarctic, Arthur Chinkarov. The famous Russian polar explorer congratulated the prince on the fulfillment of all his Arctic plans.
Earlier, on behalf of Chilingarov, Prince Harry was also presented with a clock released by limited circulation of 50 copies to the 10th anniversary of the Barneo base. “The prince said goodbye to our people very warmly, hugged and kissed our employee Margarita Terpitskaya, who met and escorted him on Svalbard,” the president of the expedition center noted. “The prince was touched by her care - she agreed so that the SAS flight waited for the plane with the prince,” she added.
Prince Harry was supposed to return from the Barneo base on Thursday in connection with his duties on military service: already at the beginning of the next week he must return from vacation in order to resume training flights as a pilot of the Apache military helicopter. In addition, it is time for him to start preparing for the wedding of the older brother - Prince William. The ceremony is scheduled for April 29, and Harry will act on it as a sher.
However, he had to linger a little - a crack appeared on Wednesday on Wednesday, and only on Thursday evening the runway managed to restore, extending it away from the fault. Barneo is an annual ice drift base located at a distance of 100-150 kilometers from the North Pole. The camp opens in early April and for a month becomes the main scientific and tourist center in the Arctic.
