"Garage" in 2012 will move to the "hexagon" in Gorky Park

The Center for Modern Culture "Garage" will open in the beginning of 2012 in a new room on the territory of the Central Park of Culture and Recreation named after Gorky, in the "hexagon" (Pavilion of Engineering, Crimean Val St., 9/28), OpenSpace reports.

The fact that the garage chose the hexagon as a place of move was unofficially mentioned a few months ago, but the leadership of the center confirmed this information only at the end of March.

The hexagon was erected in 1923 according to the project of architects Ivan Zholtovsky, Mikhail Parusnikov and Viktor Kokorin for the first all-Union agricultural and artisanal exhibition, the prototype of VDNH. It is a complex of six buildings located around a large courtyard.

According to the leadership of the Garage, after the reconstruction, the pavilion will retain its historical and cultural value, it is planned to create a tandem from Western and Russian architects to restore.

The new site will arrange exhibition spaces, a spacious lecture hall, an improved room for children's workshops, a media, a bookstore and a cafe.

By the end of this year, the Garage will be based on the territory of the former Bakhmetyevsky bus park, where he will present many projects, including exhibitions of James Tarrell, William Kentridge and Marina Abramovich.

It should be noted that the creator of the Garage Center is Daria Zhukova, a friend of the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, whose associate, State Duma deputy Sergei Kapkov became recently new director of the Central Park of Culture and Rest. Gorky. The structures of the businessman are considered the main applicants for investors in the reconstruction of the park.

Recall that in the territory of the former Bakhmetievsky bus park, the Russian Tolerance Museum will have to be located, which will become the world's largest Jewish museum.

The museum will combine several museum expositions under one roof, a library, a scientific center, conference sites and exhibition galleries. The first floor of the two-story educational and exhibition complex will be located below the ground level.
