Russian President Dmitry Medvedev arrived in Hong Kong on Saturday, his plane landed at the Kok Cock Check Airport, RIA Novosti reports.
The work program for the president’s stay in Hong Kong is scheduled for Sunday, April 17. Medvedev will talk with the head of the executive branch of the special administrative district of Hong Kong Donald Zang, and also visit the Hong Kong stock exchange.
This is the first trip of the head of the Russian state to the special administrative district (SAR) of China. The Xiangan was captured by Great Britain in 1842 and remained its colony until 1997, when the PRC regained its sovereignty over the territory. According to the joint Sino-British Declaration and the basic law of the Syangan, the territory was provided with a wide autonomy until at least 2047, that is, within 50 years after the transfer of sovereignty.
Within the framework of the course “One Country - Two Systems”, during this period, the Central People’s Government of the PRC takes on issues of defense and foreign policy of the territory, while Hong Kong reserves control over legislation, police, monetary system, duties and immigration policies, and also maintains a representative office in international organizations and events.
The population of Hong Kong is more than 7 million people. Despite the fact that Hong Kong is not an independent state, it uses the right of independent membership in such international organizations and events as Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and the Olympic Games, but after 1997 the official name of its delegations was changed to Hong Kong, China. Hong Kong also participates in some international events by including his delegate in the group of representatives of the PRC.
The Hong Kong Stock Exchange (GFB) is part of the four largest stockpes of the world in capitalization and is the third largest in Asia: shares of over 1.4 thousand companies with a total market value of 2.7 trillion dollars are traded here. Trading on the exchange is held electronically, the implementation process of which was launched back in 1986.
On March seventh, the GFB operating time was increased by half an hour. And next year, the leadership of the exchange, the average bidding on which is about $ 9.5 billion, plans to re -lengthen the trading session, reduce lunch break to one hour.
