The famous speech of the lawyer Plevako in 1901 was devoted to the defense of business. “The court is not afraid of the rich,” the prosecutor said. “You demand a verdict not because you have a guilty person in front of you, but to prove the power of the court,” Plevako replied. In 110 years, he would be considered the city's madman.
In the three years that my husband has already spent in prison, I understand lawyers. It’s worse for them now than for journalists: we can still work somewhere, and there is the Internet, and with less than one percent of acquittals, they either have to put up with impotence or work as intermediaries when bringing bribes to law enforcement and justice. Most often they combine it.
On a rainy evening, we sat down with a lawyer with whom we became friends on the problem of reforming the parole process, to discuss the science of the criminal cycle. It must be said here that, according to my observations, the best lawyers come from former investigators and dismissed prosecutors, especially if they became lawyers for ideological reasons, not enduring the idiocy, greed and cruelty of colleagues in the shop - and we have such lawyers a lot. Here is this interlocutor of mine - the same former prosecutor, and even a Russian from the Caucasian republic. Here, not only in lawyers, here you can get a haircut as a monk.
„
Here's a nasty commerce nasty - we roll out a criminal for him. So he comes and offers me a bribe, the bastard. Then I immediately tell him: you will give me everything!
”
In the midst of our fascinating conversation with him, a former classmate of my excellent lawyer, an old comrade, suddenly appears on the threshold of a cafe. The lawyer was a little embarrassed, but my fellow student and I didn’t care. A fellow student turned out to be a district-level police chief, and it was just about economic security, which has long been my profile. The boss misidentified me and referred me to the lawyer cohort, to which we remained silent: the lawyer was tactful, I was cunning. Or maybe the lawyer kept silent for educational purposes - they say, look at who you have to deal with.
The boss rolled cognac and gave me a self-presentation. “I am,” he said, “an honest servant, and my conscience is clear as that of a baby. For twenty years, I have not referred a single case to the court, I have not sent anyone to the zone - this is my life concept. Here is a filthy commerce naughty, or there are some kind of showdowns with the boys, we are rolling out a criminal for him. So he comes and offers me a bribe, the bastard. Ha! He - with me - offers to share - stolen! Then I immediately tell him: you will give me everything! There are, of course, stupid ones - they need to be held in a pre-trial detention center, but from there everyone quickly agrees: so he doesn’t just give everything, he also takes.
Mistaking me for a lawyer, he offered me his services. Moreover, there was no question of any percentage - he took everything for himself, but for this he offered me to consider my lawyer's fee honestly earned. So that I can feel as honest as a specialist, like the boss.
It is mainly the cases of the "dumb" and "non-agreed" that reach the court - as I already know well both from experience and from the examples of brothers and sisters in misfortune. Moreover, lawyers know: an “honest” law enforcement officer is one who takes and does, degreasing on the way to a herring skeleton, and a dishonest one who takes and still imprisons. By the way, a fat-free “honest” specialist becomes so uninteresting that other investigators may well imprison him for reporting. Do not waste good.
There is only one way out of this: in no case should you offer money and try to make your story as public as possible. And not when you have already been deceived or brought to a pre-trial detention center and a sentence, promising to “help” if you don’t make noise, but much earlier. With terrorists - no negotiations.
