Moscow's Presnensky Court on Tuesday authorized the arrest of all five suspects in the kidnapping of Yevgeny Kaspersky's son Ivan, Interfax reports citing its correspondent.

The spouses Nikolai and Lyudmila Savelyev, their son Nikolai, as well as Alexey Ustimchuk and Semyon Gromov were taken into custody. They will remain in custody until June 24.

Savelyev Sr. took the blame for the kidnapping. He called media reports that the crime was committed because of overdue loans a lie. According to him, the kidnappers demanded a ransom for 20-year-old Ivan Kaspersky “to improve his health.” However, he could not explain to journalists what diseases he was suffering from. According to some reports, Savelyev Sr. served time for fraud in Soviet times.

Savelyev Sr. also stated that his wife was not involved in the crime. Lyudmila Savelyeva's lawyer explained that the 63-year-old woman became a hostage of the situation, since she lives in the same house with the kidnappers.

Savelyev Jr., in turn, said that he treated Ivan Kaspersky, locked in a bathhouse near Moscow, “like his own.” He pleaded not guilty and emphasized that he acted together with his father because he did not want him to be detained. “All I did was not talk about my father’s actions, that is, I did not act like Pavlik Morozov,” the agency quotes the suspect as saying.

Representatives of the defense of Ustimchuk, a former FSO employee, stated in court that he was misled by Savelyev Sr. The 60-year-old man allegedly told his son’s friend that it was necessary to kidnap Kaspersky Jr. in order to repay his debts. Thus, Ustimchuk partially admitted guilt.

The unemployed Gromov also admitted guilt, explaining his participation in the crime due to financial difficulties. “I just found myself in a situation where I couldn’t refuse, I have two young children, a non-working wife, I need to pay rent and send my children to kindergarten,” he explained to the court. Gromov was previously convicted under the article “hooliganism”.

Let us recall that the kidnapping of Ivan Kaspersky occurred on April 19, when the young man was attacked near the office of the company where he worked part-time. The kidnappers forced him to call his father and demand 3 million euros for his release. On April 21, information about the kidnapping hit the media, and on April 22, the intelligence services spread disinformation that Kaspersky Jr. had allegedly been released. In reality, the transfer of the ransom was scheduled for April 24. The Savelyevs and Ustimchuk went to get the money, and they were detained along the way, and Gromov, who remained to guard the hostage, was detained in the Savelyevs’ house.
