About 250 Turkish workers who are busy at the APEC construction sites on the Russian island in Vladivostok arranged a strike. Workers demand salaries, reports PrimaMedia on Tuesday.
Representatives of the Turkish workers the day before informed reporters that at present 250 people refuse to work, demanding their money earned. All of them are workers previously hired by the Regiontekstroy LLC for the work on decorating the educational buildings of the future campus of the Far Eastern Federal University on the island of Russian. In 2012, the APEC summit will be held on the basis of this campus, Interfax reports.
Representatives of the strikers claim that the employer promised each worker a wage of $ 4,000 per month. On the spot, contracts were concluded two or more times lower. Now, the leadership of the LLC offers Turkish workers at $ 300 and a ticket home, while they do not return the passports, demanding from the working signatures under the receipt on receiving wages in full.
Foreign workers also declare that they are forced to starve, as they stopped issuing coupons for power. In turn, Ekaterina Chernenko, a spokeswoman for the general contractor for the construction of a university campus on the island of the Russian "Crocus International - said that LLC" Regiontekhstroy "on time all funds for the payment of workers of wages were transferred in time.
"Now we are a trial in connection with what happened. We will find out all over the week," she said. Chernenko also emphasized that the information that workers are starving is not true. “They all have lunch. Lists and accounting of those who received coupons and used them are held. There are workers in these lists,” Chernenko said.
Elena Telegina, senior assistant prosecutor of the Primorsky Territory, told RIA Novosti that representatives of the prosecutor’s office, the FSB, the Office of the Federal Migration Service and the Labor Inspectorate left for the situation to understand the situation.
Telegin clarified that Turkish workers are building the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU). She could not tell how many Turkish builders are on the island. In total, more than 10 thousand people are involved in the construction site of the university and conference center.
Earlier, in a similar situation, both foreign and Russian workers were already found on Russian island. Each time, the culprits in these stories were unscrupulous subcontractors who hired workers, received money to pay salaries, and then underestimated the amount of payments.
In particular, in September 2010, also due to non-payment of salaries, a group of Chinese workers announced a strike. Having received money, they returned to work.
In February of this year, a construction company, who did not pay a salary to workers employed in the construction of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) in Vladivostok, was removed from work at this facility and is deprived of accreditation of the state procurement.
